For @lahelenladelbarrio

Moving isn't always easy, at least that's what my mother told me. Hello, I'm Helen and I'm seventeen years old. I grew not to far from Los Angeles, but the area is still new to me. I am quite tall for my age with long brown hair that swerves down my back. I guess you can say I get it from my father, who lives in Mexico. My mother has dark eyes and long hair as well.
The house my mother bought was a smaller house, but it was good for the two of us. The paint was a sunny yellow that matched my skirt with blue shutters. The yard had a big cherry tree smack in the middle with the ripest cherries I've ever seen. With a sunset, the house looks like a million bucks.
I got my boxes and put them in a white empty room which was going to become mine. The hardwood floors had some dust on them and some dust balls, which made me shriek stepping on them. Once I was done, I ran down stairs and went outside. The sky was bright and the air was nice and warm, just like California should be. My mom was talking to our new neighbors, which was an older couple with a Border Collie.
"Hey mom, I'm going to explore a little," I said to her. She must of notice, as she nodded her head in agreement as I began to walk down the street. Two of my friends, Emily and Tanya, live near here so maybe they would know the way. Unfortunately, I didn't know where the closest phone was to use, so I found myself sticking my thumb out, hoping someone would pull over.
A couple of minutes went by, and no luck whatsoever. Then, a guy in a white convertible car pulled over to me and smiled. He had black hair that had a curl, gorgeous chocolate brown eyes, a cute butt chin, and a smile that was contagious. Little did I knew he would eventually be my boyfriend.
"Hello pretty lady, where ya heading?" He asked me. A hair fell in his face but immediately ticked it back with his hand.
"I'm trying to get to a local phone," I answered, feel embarrassed. Already I sound stupid towards a hot guy.
I never really liked guys before. Like I mean down in Mexico there is some hot boys there but all they do is scream the song La Bamba until the whole village literally tells them to shut up. One guy though I did find cute, but he had a girlfriend named Sheila. I was upset when they first started dating.
"Well I'm going to The Frosty Palace that has a phone there. I can drive you there," he offered me. My mom always told me to not talk to strangers but this kid is my age and she did tell me to make friends........
I got into the passenger seat as he began to drive off. He turned on the radio as it began to play some Doo-Wop. Doo-Wop and rock 'n' roll is my favorite these days. Most kids like Elvis and Ritchie Valens, but I like Buddy Holly and The Crickets and Dion.
"I haven't seen you around here, new?" He asked as he turned a right into a busy intersection.  My hair flew in the wind in many directions and I was surprised it stayed straight.
"Yeah, I'm Helen," I introduced myself to the cute guy. He smiled and blushed a pink.
"Well I'm Danny. What grade are you entering?" He asked me. I am seventeen but since I'm pretty smart for my age, the moved me up, so I was going to be a senior this year.
    "Senior."
"Same! But you look like a junior to me."
"Well I'm technically am, but I got bumped up a grade."
"Woah!" Danny's eyes widened. I guess he never met a person who bumped up a grade before, "That's pretty tough." Danny turned into a parking lot where in front of me was a restaurant called Frosty Palace. It looked fairly new, I guessed it was probably a few years old. Out of all the creative bright colors and landscape, my favorite exterior part was the snowman. He was really cute, but not as cute as Danny.
Danny held the door open for me and I went inside. Inside was Coca Cola posters, a jukebox, tables, even more posters, and a dancing area. An older lady who looked stressed was delivering two milkshakes to a couple as I stumbled trying to find the phone. Once I found it, I rang up Tanya's number and told her about Danny. She giggled when I told him about his butt chin. Then I called Emily and told her that I was officially in Los Angeles. She seemed pretty thrilled and also excited that we were going to be in the same high school. Once I finished my calls, I went to go leave but suddenly someone grabbed my shoulder. I spun around to see Danny there holding out his hand.
"Um.... You wanna eat with me? Like a date?" He asked me. I couldn't be more thrilled. I took his hand and he led me to a table near the jukebox. There was currently no music playing so I pit a nickel in the machine and picked the song "Wild One" by Jerry Lee Lewis. When the piano began to play, I began doing twirls back to the table. Danny chuckled softly and all of a sudden, he took me to the dance floor and we began to dance to it. The world see,ed to stop that moment. Nothing and no one was on my mind but Danny.

I hope you enjoy it!!!!
