For @ohoktroye
Only fifteen years old and everyone knew me in town. Why you ask? I'm dating one of the toughest boys at Rydell High School - Kenickie Murdock. He was a senior, a greaser, and apparently everyone that I knew wanted to date him. Before I wasn't extremely popular around school, and just like a typical girl I had a small group of friends. One group is called the Pink Ladies, where a majority of them are seniors. I met them by Frenchy, one of the Pink Ladies who is almost all my classes. We both enjoy beauty classes and are always doing experiments to try to create new makeup.
Many of them date tough greasers called the T-Birds, who always smoke and compete in driving races with the Scorpions. All of them had girlfriends but one. His name was Kenickie. He had golden dirty blonde hair, a smile that can always brighten up a day, and always brought positive vibes to people he was around.
I started developing feelings for him last year when he was a junior and I was a freshman. Then there were no boy groups that senior year, just the T Birds in my grade and in his. He and I didn't hang out that often, as I was nervous that I would act stupid around him. Apparently he told me that he felt the same way too, but it wasn't until a party that Jan had until he told me.
Everyone brought over their favorite records to trade that night. I brought Little Richard, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry. Jan had all her vinyls out in alphabetical order with music from World War II to today.
There were at least four Elvis Presley albums scattered on the floor, and I knew I had to leave with one. I picked one up and scanned the back, my eyes glued to each song title. I knew that this was the one.
"Whoever has this album I'll trade you with Buddy Holly or Chuck Berry!" I stated as the birds and the ladies stopped in their tracks for a minute.
"Oh that's mine," Kenickie said. "You can have it, no trade required."
My heart fluttered as he talked to me. His hair was messy from shuffling around records and putting some on the player.
Jan came back with two pizzas and coke as we all just traded, ate, and sang. I managed to trade my Buddy Holly for Bobby Darin and everyone was satisfied with what they got.
"These are fun," Jan said as she ate a piece of pizza quickly. The guys nodded as she realized the time.
"Shoot! It's ten thirty! My parents are supposed to be home in an hour! I'm sorry guys but I don't want my parents flipped out with ten teenagers in their daughter's bedroom! I have to clean up this room, it looks like World War III attacked it! I'll see you guys on Monday."
Like that, we all quickly said goodbye as Danny left with Doody, Sonny and Putzie. Frenchy decided to take the local bus to her house so she began walking towards the bus stop. Rizzo decided to drive Marty back to her house. I originally got there by Jan, but with only me and Kenickie left, I decided to take the long way home.
"Bye Jan! See ya soon!" I shouted as I closed the main door behind me. I began walking in the freezing cold as I felt a slight and soft tap on my shoulder. There in front of me was Kenickie. He opened his passenger door as he smiled at me.
"What are ya waiting for? I ain't letting a pretty girl walk home by herself in the cold. Get in!"
I blushed at his compliment as I got in the passenger's seat. The inside of Kenickie's car was beautiful, with cream tan interior and a brand new radio. There was not a dent or tear in anything inside the car. I buckled myself in as I told Kenickie my address. He simply nodded as the radio began to play "Summertime Blues." We were in silence the first five minutes in the car until I finally broke out the silence.
"Thanks for letting me keep that Elvis album. I really like it," I yawned as I looked out the window. California is pretty at night, with all it's beautiful lights sparkling like stars.
"No problem Haley." He said as he smiled. I didn't want this car ride to end. I was with my crush and we were both happy. Suddenly I felt my gut telling me I had to say something to him.
"Kenickie, would you get upset if I said something to you?"
"No, tell me."
"Well I like you. I know this may be shocking for you, but I've liked you ever sense last year. It's okay if you don't like me back it's just......." My sentence was ended by a sweet kiss by Kenickie on the lips. He winked at me as he gently ruffled my hair.
"That's funny because I liked you since last year too! So um..... do you wanna be my girlfriend?" He asked as I nodded soon after like a bullet.
"Man this is a great night, I wish it didn't have to end." He whispered as he pulled into my driveway. Kenickie opened the door for me as I walked inside my house. My mom and dad were watching television when I entered the room.
"Hi sweetie, how was your night?" My mom cooed as I blushed.
"Good ma, I brought a friend for you two to meet. This is my boyfriend Kenickie." I stated as Kenickie shook my parents hands.
"It's very nice to meet you." He announced.
My dad got up from the sofa and looked at me in the eyes.
"When did you meet this kid? How old is he? Is he a wild child? Is he smart? He asked. My dad has always been overprotective of me getting a boyfriend due to that he doesn't want me to get hurt by them.
"In school, 17, no, and yes very. He does mechanical work."
"Has he ever had a girlfriend?"
"No Dad he hasn't."
"Does he do any sports?"
"Nope."
"What kind of music does he listen to?"
"Same as me Dad."
"Well then," my dad started. "If Kenickie ever does anything to you I'll break his neck. Even though he's two years older then you, you can date him. Just don't cause any troubles okay?"
I nodded as I hugged my dad and then Kenickie. He hugged me back as I yawned again.
"I guess I'll call you when I wake up. Night everyone," I began walking up the stairs as I went to bed. That night all I dreamt about was me and Kenickie.
