'Heart adorned with love, eyes filled with trust and hope, he took deep breaths. His own heartbeat thudded in his ears as he felt himself freefall into oblivion. His back crashed and broke as he reentered cruel reality again...'

~

Gatsby's eyes fought an intense battle against themselves, each eyelid drooping to close again. 'NO! GET UP! WAKE UP!' He kept urging himself. Gatsby desperately tried forcing himself up. He heard a small voice.

"Daddy's waking up!!" Rose. Rose was there. "Jay?" Nick. Gatsby's eyes fluttered open. His mouth felt like cotton, and his eyelids were heavy weights. His breathing staggered, and his voice extremely soft. He could only mouth the name...

"Nick..."

~

Nick was flabbergasted. He couldn't believe his tired eyes.

"... Aren't you going to come and hug your sweetheart, old sport?~" Gatsby gave a tired, teasing smile. Nick restrained himself from completely murdering him in a tackle hug and went to him. He held him close and softly kissed his forehead.

Gatsby smiled softly at the embrace.

Rose hugged Gatsby softly. "DADDY!!" Gatsby smiled softly, taking in her appearance. ".... she's grown... and so beautiful...." He suddenly put on a grim and serious expression. "No boy is allowed or else I will harm him."

Rose looked to Nick, confused. "Don't worry about it sweetie." He gave a smile and kissed her forehead.

After several hours of talking and catching up with each other, Gatsby's eyes becane brighter and more vibrant with life. He cherished each word that came out of the loves of his life's mouths. They were music to his frail ears. A small question came to mind, but he pushed it aside and held his two dears close.

A small nurse walked in, clipboard in hand and humming a soft tune. "Mr. Gatsby. How are you today, sir?" Gatsby smiled softly. "I am fine, my good madame. And you?" The old woman gave a faint blush of flattery. "I'm as well as can be." Nick watched the nurse carefully.

She was no more than four feet tall, with a thin frame and pale, wrinkled skin. Her dress was tight fitting, but on her it was completely loose, up to the point where it needed a belt. Her shoes were white sneakers, old and worn out completely, to the point where the holes could show her bare feet. Nick looked away and back to Gatsby.

"Well, the good news is you'll be out in a week's time. Bad news is that you'll need to take horse pills for that entire time. It's to help you regain feeling in your body. We'll also be doing exercises daily so that you can walk straight again."

Gatsby gave her a small smile and nod. "Thank you..." He whispered out hoarsely. Nick held Gatsby's hand gently, wanting to take him out already.

"Easy old sport~ Do you miss me that much?~"

"Of course I do, idiot!! You've been gone for three years!" Nick burst into tears. "You could have fell this entire time, fell into Death's hands, and you decide to joke!?" Heavy sobs tried to escape from him, but all failed as he willed himself to push them down. He sniffled and coughed grossly, trying to keep all his emotions in.

The three years had been rough on him, making each day a suffering. Gatsby softly tried to get up and kiss Nick. Nick gently stooped down so he could.

"Old sport, relax... Everything will be in order soon... Just a week, and then we'll talk about everything. Sound good?" Nick nodded with tears in his soft, pale eyes.

"Paaaaapaaaaaa!! I don't understand this homework question!" Rose pouted. Nick had made her take her homework over, and finish it there. Gatsby looked to her. "What is it about?" "It says something about fractions..." "Ew. Math." Nick couldn't help but smile softly and chuckle. The two helped her with homework, while the nurses tended to Gatsby here and there.

Things seemed to finally be taking a turn.
