Chapter 14

Last night was horrible. I didn't want to leave my room to shower or eat. I didn't even let my friends in my room. My hair looked like a nest with squirrels in it, and my eyes are all teared up. Even though we are mermaids we still feel all emotions. I can't go on much longer. I need to suck it up and eat some ice cream. That's what most teenage mermaids would do right? Oh, who am I kidding no one will know what mermaids do.

"Nikki, Nikki, Nikki, Nikki, Nikki!" Everyone was shouting out by my room.

I open the door and all of a sudden my Mom and all my friends come up and sing happy birthday. "Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to Nikki! Happy birthday to you!"

Omg! I totally forgot that its my birthday.

"We have ice cream." Mom said.

"I will take..." I declared. "All of it!"

"Ok, ok, calm down. We will give you only half."

"Fine." I replied.

It's my birthday and I want Seth to be here. He was my first ever real boyfriend.

"Can I go for a walk around the park, alone?" I asked looking at Macy and Emma. I knew they would tag along too.

"Yeah sure, but don't stay that long." Mom replied.

"Ok, bye."

I think everyone is depressed these days. Since every time I look at Emma she would just frown.

I drove to the park in my car, and grabbed my shades to protect my eyes from the sun. I walked and walked and walked. I started to jog on the tracks around the park to get a nice breeze. Next, I started to run. Feeling the breeze down my back, and that was when I tripped.

"Ow!" I cried out in pain.

"I'm so sorry!" Someone said. "I didn't see you there."

"No worried." I lied.

"I didn't mean to, I never have done that to anyone before."

"It's fine." I lied again looking up at him.

"My name is Toby Marshal." He said.

"Nikki Reed."

"Cute name."

"Thanks."

"Well, since I tripped you I guess I have to buy you lunch."

"I'm sorry," I started. "I was just in a relationship and I don't want to be hurt again."

"No I mean out to lunch like as friends."

"Yeah sure, I guess." I said trying to get up. I tried limping but that didn't work.

"Let me help you."

"It's fine I can manage." I replied.

Toby picked me up like a baby, anyway. I put my arms around his neck and whispered into his ear," Thank you."

"No problem." He said leaning closer to me, but I pulled away fast.

"Was in a relationship, please don't push it."

Toby carried me to a restaurant called Culver's. I used to eat her as a kid, and I would always get the chicken tenders on the kids menu. My favorite shake was always the mint and chocolate chips, but nowadays I get the chocolate covered strawberries. Toby set me down in the booth, and ordered for the both of us. He surprisingly got me my favorite soda(Mountain Dew). How does he know? I thought dreamily. Snap out of it Nikki. Toby is hot, but if you compare them. Toby has sea green eyes, and a Logan Lerman hair cut from his movie The Lightning Thief. Toby has brown hair with natural highlights. Seth is a different story. He has dreamy brown eyes, and blond hair. Unlike Toby, Seth has no natural highlights.

"Do you want to split a shake?" Toby asked me.

"Yeah sure," I replied. "What flavor?"

"How about a mint?"

"Yeah, I love mint."

"I hate it when people say its disgusting." He replied. "You have passed the test."

"What test?"

"Oh nothing." Toby said a little shyly.

"Come on, tell me."

"Fine, just don't laugh. You are my type."

"Your type." I said trying not to laugh. "So I am your type, then."

"Yeah, I guess." Toby said walking away.

He came back with a large mint shake. I took a little sip, but that didn't stop me from getting a brain freeze. I think Toby has one too because I can see him bending over with his hand on his forehead.

"You have one too." I laughed.

"Yeah." He said laughing too.

"I think I should head home. Today's my birthday and I promised my Mom..."

"Happy birthday!" He said interrupting my sentence.

"Thanks, it's not so happy though. My breakup was the day before." I replied. Why am I saying this in front of Toby? He is cute and obviously loves me, but I'm talking about my breakup.

"I'll drive you home." Toby replied.

"Thanks." I said. I decided to say thanks because he was going to drive me home if I said no.

Toby picked me back up and carried me to his car. I feel so bad he has to carry me, but its his fault he ran into me. He asked if I wanted to listen to music.

"Yeah, ok." I replied.

After a song the radio went on a break. It talked about what has been happening, and yada yada yada. So after all that explaining another voice said," Nikki Reed, if your out there, I still love you."

"Omg, I'm so sorry, Toby." I said trying to grab his arm.

"It's fine." Toby replied. "He must really love you if he went on a radio station to say that."

"Well, I broke up with him because he was a evil warlock."

"Hahaha, that's funny."

"But it's true!" I replied.

"Ok, ok, he is supposedly a evil warlock." Toby said with sarcasm.

"Tell me something, are you any type of magical creature?" I asked.

"No, they don't even exist." Toby tensed almost jumping out of the car.

"Ok that's good, oh and that was a joke you know that, right?"

"Yeah, I know."

We made it to my house at four something, and I invited Toby into the house for some cake and ice cream.
