As I walked out the door I secretly hoped it would be hard to find Chris. My parents had informed me that the red monster truck that was parked in front of the house was his, but as I looked around I noticed it still parked in the front of my house. I sighed and put my keys in my pocket.
The only place I could think of to look for him was Nature preserve. I walked slowly, figuring he couldn’t have gotten far. I grabbed my I touch out of my pocket and put headphones in. Paramour the only exception started playing.
It was cold out and I was instantly glad that I had my jacket. I put my hands in my pocket and started walking. He always does this, I thought to myself, he is always running off. God he’s just like a girl, always over reacting.
There was a buzzing in my pocket, interrupting my thoughts and I sighed as I pulled out my phone. There was a text message from Sam.
Sam: Have you found him yet?
I sighed again. I had been gone for less than 5 minutes and she already expected results.
Me: what do you think???
Sam: I’m guessing that’s a no?
I shook my head and put my phone back in my pocket ignoring her last text.
I realized that again it was getting dark. For the second night in a row I would have to walk through the Nature preserve in the dark. I got over the hill and saw Chris standing in the same spot that we were laying the night before. The bear looked over the mountain to see what he could see randomly popped into my head. I laughed quietly to myself and then an idea occurred to me. A stupid childish idea. I was going to scare Chris. I don’t know why I thought that, all I know is that it definitely didn’t turn out the way I wanted.
I started walking towards him. My plan was to run and jump on his back. I started running down the hill and I did jump, but he turned around so that I was facing him. It looked like he had been crying. I tried to stop myself from jumping, but ended up just tripping over my feet and falling into Chris. We both went falling to the ground and I landed right on top of him.
“I am so sorry,” I said. I tried to get up off of him without hurting him, but I ended up elbowing him in the stomach, and then kneeing him in the side. “Oh I’m sorry.”
He sniffed and then stood up next to me.
“I’m really sorry,” I said yet again, looking into his eyes. They sparkled blue with tears. “Are you alright?” I asked quietly. He turned around and walked away, not even acknowledging my question. I sat down on the ground making sure he knew I wasn’t going to follow him. He turned back around and looked at me.
I put my head down and started to play with some of the grass, “listen I’m really sorry.” I could tell that he heard me because the footsteps stopped. I looked up just high enough to see his feet turn around and walk back towards me, but he didn’t sit. He just stood in front of me.
“I didn’t think about how you would react. I guess I didn’t really care, but that was wrong.” I was still staring at his feet, “I guess I would have been pretty pissed if someone sent my friends away.”
“Those weren’t my friends.” He said quietly. I looked up at him sharply.
“Then why did you yell at me?” I glared at him.
“Because I was upset,” he sat down next to me, “my friends were cool, and those people were just loud. I don’t know what happened to them. I guess when I left something just happened.”
I stared at him for a motherent, and then looked up at the stars.
“You never did get a chance to tell me what constellations you knew.” Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small smile break across his face.
