The sun wasn’t even up yet when I opened my eyes. I groaned and rolled back over in my bed, hiding my eyes in my pillow, and calling for a few more hours of sleep, but it didn’t come.

The air was chilly and blew softly through the open window, making the curtains flit up. The house creaked in the cold. I could hear the ticking of my clock next to me and when I rolled over it read 6:23am. I strained my ears for any noises of people moving around down stairs, but couldn’t hear a thing.

Realizing there was no way for me to get to sleep again, I flung my legs out of bed and my feet hit the cold ground. I flinched slightly as the breeze ran across my legs. I shuffled over to my dresser and slipped on some sweats over my shorts, then slid on my slippers. When I opened my door the chill from the hall rushed past me. I shivered, but made my way downstairs.

When I walked into the living room I flipped on the light. It blinded me for a second and I dimmed it quickly so I could actually see. I walked into the kitchen to pour myself some cereal and that’s when I heard the music. It was faint, but I could tell it was coming from Chris’s room.

I didn’t particularly want to see Chris, but I knew we needed to discuss the plan for that night. I turned the light back off, walked to Chris’s door and knocked softly. The music stopped abruptly, but no one came to the door. I knocked again. Still no answer.

Screw this I thought and walked in. Chris was under the covers with his head facing the opposite direction, but I could see his reflection in the window and his eyes were still open. I jumped onto his bed and I could see the eyes in the reflection grow wide.

“So explain this plan to me.” I laid back against his head board. He rolled over and  glared at me. “You woke me up.” He complained with false exhaustion.

“Oh you can cut the act.” I snapped. “I heard your music and I could see your eyes open in the reflection.”

He sighed and opened his eyes fully. “What do you want?”

“I need to know what your plan is for tonight.” I looked around his room absentmindedly  and noticed all the little trinkets he had decorated the room with. Next to e within y reach was a guitar pick on a chain. I picked it up and turned it over in my hand.

“Well my only plan was to tell your parents I wanted to see the nightlife, but I didn’t want to get lost.” He shrugged.

“And you really think they’ll fall for it?” I asked running my thumb over the golden store logo on the pick.

“Yes. I do.” He snatched the pick out of my hand and put it around his neck. “I would ask you to please not touch my things, but I’d rather just tell you not to.”

I rolled my eyes. “And what happens if they don’t?”

“If they don’t what?” he asked dimwittedly.

“Don’t fall for it.” I insisted.

“Then I guess your just outa luck babe.” He smirked.

I snarled at him and stood up. “You better hope this works. Tell them around six what you want. I’ll play along as much as necessary. Be ready to leave at seven.” I turned around to walk away and heard him chuckle and whisper “yes Ma’am.” Before turning back on his music.

The day passed slowly and I found myself pacing my bedroom floor in anticipation. Evey five minutes I would reach for my phone to check for texts from Kyle. Of course I didn’t get a single one, but I got plenty from Sam.

SAM: What time should I come over?

ME: You can’t I’m grounded.

SAM: How r u getting to da party den?

ME: Don’t worry I have it all figured out.

SAM: Whats the plan.

ME: It’s to long to text.

SAM: But I’ll need to know my part.

ME: You don’t have a part.

SAM: D: Wat?

ME: Sorry.

SAM: Pretty please.

ME: GTG

SAM: >: ( Fine. Bye

ME: bye.

Not soon enough six o’clock came. I walked downstairs and pretended to get a snack out of the panty. I was just putting a cookie into my mouth when Chris walked in.

“Sage and I are going on a date later.” He announced. I heard the gasps of my parents but they were drowned out by my choking. I had to brace myself against the door frame and couch up the cookie I had just inhaled.

“What?!” I cried as I turned around, still out of breath.

Chris smirked at me. I walked towards him with my hand in the air ready to smack him, but instead he took my hand and pulled me into an embrace, wrapping his arms around my waist.

“We are madly in love.” He told y parents, much to my dismay.  My parents just stared in wide eyed shock.

“No we are not!” I said trying to push away. He only held on tighter. On my final push he let go and I stumbled backwards.

“No. Not really.” He chuckled. “but she is taking me out tonight so I can see the night life without getting lost. So it’s kind of like a date.”

“Oh No –,” I started but my mother interrupted me.

“That sounds like fun Sage. It’ll be good for you.” She said smiling.

“I don’t want to take him out.” I protested. Then I realized: Its exactly what I wanted.

“Well I don’t care. You’re going to anyways.” She said closing the conversation. I wanted to smile and fist pump the air, but I knew that I had to keep my act up just till I got upstairs.

“Fine.” I said grudgingly and stomped up the stairs to my room. Once I had closed the door I smiled enthusiastically. “yes!” I cried.

I started to pull clothes out of my dresser to get ready when Chris walked in. “You so owe me.” he chuckled.

I grimaced and continued to throw clothes onto my floor. “I think after that show you owe me.” I snarled.

“Don’t you see what I did? I made you looked like you didn’t want to go which hid the fact that you wanted to go from your parents.”

My eyes grew wide. He was right, even I was convinced. “I guess you’re right.” I sighed.

He nodded proudly and turned to leave. “Make sure you ready by seven.” He chuckled and then left.
