What Lies ahead: a bughead fanfiction

3 days later, Monday

" so...what happened with you and Jughead in Archie's room?" Veronica said raising and eyebrow as her and Betty walk arm in arm down the hall to the lunchroom. Betty turn to her smirking.

" I could ask you the same thing about Archie" she says.

" I told you, nothing happened"

Betty smirks and raised an eyebrow. Veronica laughs.

" nothing happened!"

They take their seat with Archie, Jughead and Kevin. She can feel his eyes burning on her, staring her down.  She doesn't meet his gaze. Instead turns to Archie.

" I'm starved, wanna come with me on the lunchline?"

" when was the last time you ever got school lunch" Kevin asks, surprised at Betty's comment.

" I get it sometimes, it's not awful." She says standing and slowly walking towards the line.

"V?" Betty asks. Veronica sighs dramatically and stands.

"Fine, but your getting me a drink" she says as they walk away.

Archie turns around to make sure the girls aren't in earshot. He puts his fork down and turns to Jughead.

" what's going on?"

"With what" Jughead says, taking another bite of his burger.

" with you and Betty, she hasn't looked at you all day"

" Nothing,were fine" he says in a tone that lets Archie know the conversation is over. Kevin looks at Archie, a confused look in his eyes.

" so Betty, how's homecoming and the reunion coming along?" Veronica asks as the two girls sit back down.

" you know, Principal Weatherbee what's me to put all of my attention on the homecoming, then Mayor McCoy wants me to put all my attention on The reunion dance, but my mom wants me to put all my focus on the blue and gold. So basically I'm running on less then 3 hours of sleep, and I'm not gonna be able to leave the school till 12:45 cause I have to work on decorations, then when I get home I have to do my 10 pounds of homework and finish writing the article that's due tomorrow for the blue in gold" Betty says taking a hard stab at her salad, her finger nails on her other hand breaking skin.

" woah B calm down, we'll help you with decorating" Veronica says taking a sip of the drink Betty had bought for her.

" I have football practice" Archie says. Veronica looks at him and kicks him under the table.

" but I can try" Archie says putting a hand on her shoulder.

Betty shakes her head " no, no it's fine really"

Ring!!! Ring!!!

Betty picks up her phone and answers the call.

" hello? Oh my god I completely forgot" Betty says, rushed into the phone while she packs up her things. " I know, I know, tell her I'll be rite there" she says hanging up. Betty shoves her notebooks and papers filled with decoration plans into her backpack.

" Slow down Betty, where are you going?" Archie asks.

" it was my mom, I was supposed to meet with Mayor McCoy this period, I totally forgot. I gotta go, see you at cheer practice" Betty says, throwing her uneaten salad in the garbage. Jughead looks up at Betty as she walks away, digging through her bag, putting a pill in her mouth.
