" sorry I'm late" Betty says walking into the blue and gold office, 5 folders overflowing with papers in hand. She puts the folders down beside her desks and lets her backpack fall off her shoulder onto the ground with a load thud, making Jughead look up from his laptop. She brings a hand up to the shoulder her backpack was resting on, massaging on the the aching muscle.
" long day?" Jughead asks.
" and it's not even..." Betty looks down at her watch " 11 o'clock " she says plopping into her chair. He stands and moves behind her, putting his hand on her shoulder. He lovingly smoothing the nots near her neck and upper back. She sighs, reveling in the feeling, turning her head to the side to give Jughead more room. She stands and turns around and kisses the boy. His hands go to her lower back and hers go to his face, cradling it pulling him towards her. She pulls away and leans her forehead on his.
" thank you" she whispers. He pulls back and kisses her forehead before pulling her into his arms.
" I'm sorry for not talking to you earlier"
" you never have to be sorry" he says squeezing her frame.
" no, I do. I just- I just didn't know what to say" she says looking up at him.
" you didn't have to say anything, I understand" he says in a loving tone.
" thank you" she whispers as she nuzzles herself into his arms.
---
" no mom, Jughead said his dad didn't do it and I believe him"
" Elizabeth-"
" no mom, I'm not gonna use him to investigate his father!" Betty says in a sharp whispery tone.
" lets go V" she says walking out of the blue and gold office...alone.
" Mrs.Cooper, I wanna help. I think my dad might have been involved with the serpents"

Betty stretches her arm up higher, struggling to finish putting up the decorations as the ladder wobbles below her. She feels the ladder sway to one side and her body sway to the other. She grips the top of the ladder waiting for the impact.
" woah " Jughead says rushing over steadying the old wooden ladder. Betty laughs an airy exhausted laugh under her breath as she gets down off the ladder and wipes the sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand.
" thanks" she says plucking the little splinters out of her hands. Jughead stays silent. Betty looks up to see a goofy smirk on the boys face.
" what?" She says also smiling. She gets so happy when she sees Jughead happy, she knows he doesn't get to feel that often.
" what time should me and my dad be over tomorrow?" He asks.
" what are you taking about jug?" She asks, her happiness slowly dwindling down.
" your mom didn't tell you, she invited us over tomorrow before the dance. She says she wants to have a dinner with both of our families! Don't you thinks that's a great idea?" He says, excitement and giddiness in his eyes. Betty's smile drops from her face as the gears in her head start turning full speed.
" Betty? Don't you think that's a great idea?" He asks again, his voice has a hint of disappointment. Betty slaps a smile on her face.
" of course! It's a great idea, be there at 6:30" she says holding his forearms.
" will do Juliet" Jughead looks up at the string lights Betty was hanging up as he approached her. " I'll go get you another set of lights" he says kissing her cheek and walking out of the gym. The minute he's gone Betty let's a breath she didn't know she was holding slip past her perfectly painted lips.
What are you up to Alice Cooper she thinks as she moves the ladder down to the next lightless spot.
