BELLA

It's been a week since Bryan offered me the job at his publishing company. During that week, I've babysat Sarah and he hasn't asked me about my decision. He told me that there was no pressure, so he's not pressuring me.

During that week, I had ample opportunities to tell Harry about the offer, but for some reason, I didn't.

The first opportunity came at dinner with Scott and Rebecca.

***flashback***

"So, Harry, I know that you work at the gym with Scott." Rebecca explains before turning to me. "What about you, Bella? When I asked Scott, he told me you were in between jobs."

"I was." I nod. "I was working at the local animal shelter, but now I'm a nanny."

"Bella's new boss is loaded." Harry gloats, and the other two laugh. I, on the hand, shift uncomfortably.

"Oh really? What does he do?" Rebecca asks.

"He's the CEO of a publishing company." I tell her, and her eyes light up.

"Which publishing company? I work at a PR firm outside of the city, and we work with a lot of the local publishing companies."

"Winston."

"Oh my god, Bryan Winston?" She asks in disbelief. "What a small world? I actually got my job at the firm through him. He hooked me up with an internship in their journalist department, and the networking was incredible. That's how I met my current boss."

"Wow. It is a small world." I try to sound enthusiastic, but for some reason I'm overcome with guilt.

"Well, good for you, girl. You're definitely in with the right person." She says before going into a story about her work at the PR firm.

As she speaks, I glance over at Harry, and for some reason, the guilt gets even stronger.

***

The most recent opportunity came last night when Harry and I were laying on the couch together, watching a movie.

***flashback***

I'm lying on my side against Harry's chest with his arms wrapped around my waist.

"I forgot to ask, did Bryan ever say anything about the magazine that you looked over?" Harry asks with his mouth by my ear.

"He, uh...he thanked me for doing it." I answer awkwardly.

"That's it? That's all he said?" He doesn't believe me.

"I mean, he said that I did a good job."

"I feel like he should've said more than that. You did a job that someone else usually gets paid to do. I'd say he owes you."

***

I don't know why I haven't told him. And I don't know what I'm going to do about this job offer.

In all honesty, it's pretty much a dream job for someone getting a degree in writing. To be the editor of your own column in a global magazine. If I can do that without even having my degree completed, I think I can do anything.

And I think that's why I'm not telling Harry.

I'm not telling Harry because I know that this opportunity is something amazing and life changing. It's too good to be true.

My life hasn't had many truly good moments in a long time, so this is certainly not one that I plan on taking lightly. I need time to think and weigh my options before I rush into something simply because it sounds good.
