BELLA
My eyes open groggily as I breathe a deep breath and nuzzle deeper into the cushioning bed beneath me, bringing the blanket up around my chin. My movement causes Harry's arm to tighten around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest.
Yes. I spent the night. In my clothes. Against every ounce of my better judgment.
But I couldn't leave. I couldn't leave because everything that I said last night was true. It felt so good to be open and honest with Harry, and it felt even better to finally get my feelings for him back out on the table.
Of course I still have feelings for him. But it's nice to finally be able to admit that. I know that we still have a long road ahead of us, and unfortunately, that journey's going to have to wait.
I glance over at the clock by the bed. I have to be at work in an hour, and I still need to get home so I can shower and change.
Deciding not to wake Harry up, I carefully slide out from beneath his arm and sit up on the bed. As amazing as it feels to be lying next to him, I need to get back to reality. I stand up and grab my bag from the floor before pulling my phone out to call a cab.
As I try to find the number online, I tiptoe towards the door. I thought I was being pretty quiet, but I guess not.
"Sneaking out on me?" Harry's husky voice asks from the bed, and I whip my head over my shoulder to see him rubbing his eyes.
His playful remark solicits a smile from me. "I have to get to work." I say, keeping my voice low. I can tell that, despite my attempts to get him to go to sleep last night, he still woke up with a hangover.
"I'll drive you home." He says immediately, throwing his legs over the edge of the bed and standing up with his hand still clutching his head.
I reach into my purse and pull out a small bottle of Advil, dispensing two tablets into my hand and walking towards him. "You don't have to drive me, and I'm not having this argument again. Stay here and nurse your hangover. I'll just call a cab."
He simply snatches the pills from my hands and brushes past me with a wave of his hand. He walks into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. I'm not sure what he's doing in there, so I decide to wait patiently.
After listening to the water run and some more rummaging around, the door opens and he steps out fully clothed.
Without saying anything, he grabs his car keys from the dresser and heads out the door, holding it open for me to follow.
Moments later, we're in the car driving towards my apartment. I'm driving because I convinced Harry to give me his keys. He didn't feel well, and I knew he wasn't going to back down from his offer to drive me home, so we compromised.
"Remember the first time you let me drive your car?" I ask casually, and he lets out a small laugh through his nose.
"You mean the first time you forced me to let you drive my car?" He fires back, reminiscing on the time that I drove Harry's car to Thanksgiving dinner because he was still recovering from his time in the hospital after a fight.
We both laugh for a moment, smiling at the memory that seems so far away now.
Unfortunately, that brief exchange is the only bit of conversation that occurs before we arrive at my apartment. I had hoped we would talk a little bit more, but neither of us seems to know what to say.
We still have so much to talk about, but I guess it'll have to wait until later. I have to get to work anyway.
"Thanks for the ride." I say softly as we walk up to the front door and I hand the keys back to Harry. I unlock the door and step inside, holding it open so that he can follow me. "You can stay here and rest for a little bit before you head back to the hotel." I suggest as Maverick attacks Harry's legs with kisses.
