JJ's POV
"You said you wouldn't do it again." He said blankly.
"I know," I groaned back at him.
"I can't lose you," his voice cracked, "don't you get that." Tears stung his eyes, but Beka refused to let them fall.
"Atlin, you don't have to be strong for me."
"You were strong for me when I needed you."
"We both know that was different."
"We were younger, stuff seemed worse in our heads."
I'm not strong, Beka persevered. He worked hard, we trained together. Eventually it was just the past for him. For me it's the ever looming world.
"Beka, I'm not like you," I sighed.
With one hand on my shoulder he looked into my eyes, "we are all different, like how-"
"Like how there's not one way to skate there is not one way to live," I groaned. "How about you tell me the story again as if I didn't live it," I joked trying to lighten the mood. It's been five years since they met. Not long after Otabek trained in Russia he came to Canada.
"H-hi I'm Otabek Atlin." Holding out his hand to me.
"I'm JJ. I didn't know you could shake hands with a king." I was such a snobby teen.
The boy laughed. His soldier eyes lighting up.
"What brings you to Canada Beka?"
"Beka," he looked at me curiously, "I like it. There is no right way to skate so I'm here."
"It's also my way to train so I'd hope it was right."
"I came from Russia, I wasn't good at ballet."
"No? You weren't one to fall on your face," I teased.
"It was embarrassing, I had just met someone too." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
I tied up my skates, "well that's enough chit chat let's get to skating."As time passed, from the corner of my eye I saw the boy throw himself into the air spinning wild. I slid up to him.
"Is that a quad Salchow?" I questioned.
"It's an attempt at one," he smiled. Again rubbing the back of his neck.
Let me teach you. And from there we had made history."I'll see you tomorrow Beka," I waved.
"Wait," he called to me.
I turned as he pulled me into a hug, "it was nice to meet you."
"And the same to you"
