It had taken much bartering, but Ben had finally convinced me to return to the Bar on B to meet his pervy boss. He had been bragging about his ever growing business for the last half hour. I resisted the urge to dump my drink over his head and storm out by remembering that Ben was working for this promotion so Emma could have a better life.
"So now that I've officially conquered New York, I'm taking the Henderson brand national. I'm thinking Chicago, Atlanta, even Vegas. First stop, Miami. You up for that, Wheeler?"
"Wait, are you offering me the job?" Ben questioned enthusiastically, frantically patting my knee in excitement, as if he was trying to get my attention.
"Well, nothing's final, but why don't you and your dime piece of a wife fly down for the weekend and check it out? It'll be fun. And romantic. Flights, meals, hotel, everything will be paid for. And we know how much you like hotel rooms." Henderson teased suggestively.
"Sounds like an offer we can't refuse, huh babe?" Ben asked, draping his arm around my shoulders. I turned my head to see he was gazing at me. Ben was a better actor than I thought as it looked like he actually was madly in love with me.
"Come on, Cassie!" Henderson coaxed. "It'll give you a break from the little one. Call that crazy mother-in-law of yours and dump the kid with her."
I forced myself to remain calm and not act upon the compulsion to throw the bottle of liquor next to me at his head. "I can't wait."
"Great! I will book us flights for first thing tomorrow!"

"Miami? Are you insane?!" Riley ranted. I had to pull my phone away from my ear she was so loud.
"Come on, Ri-Ri, it's not that big of a deal." I assured her, holding my cell phone between my ear and my shoulder as I folded some random clothes I had taken out of my closet and organizing them in a duffel bag that was propped open on my bed. "We're just gonna fly down for the weekend."
"Why are you doing all this, Cassie? Pretending to be married to him, going out for drinks with his boss, going on a trip with him? This is gonna get you in trouble." Riley said disapprovingly.
"Yeah, I know. It's gonna bite me in the ass, but if there's any chance I can help Ben get this job, then I'll have drinks with his pervy boss, or go on an all expenses paid trip to Miami. I'm doing this for Emma." I explained to her, tossing a couple pairs of shorts into my bag.
Riley sighed. "Be careful. Please." She requested and I assured her I would be.
I changed the subject, continuing the conversation with my older sister. I ranted about Ben's boss. I told her he had made a pass at me and Riley played the part of the big sister and best friend and gave the whole 'how dare he! The audacity!' routine.
"I know! I am a married woman!" I had responded.
"Well, actually, you're not..."
"But he doesn't know that." I defended. I had finished packing my bag and zipped it close, setting it by my apartment door. "I'm gonna go help Ben put Emma to bed. I'll call you tomorrow."
"Alright, love you." Riley responded.
"Love you too."
Just before I was about to set my phone down, my familiar ringtone sounded and I recognized Ravi's profile picture. It was a photo of the two of us at his sister's wine tasting party he had invited me to. The entire time, I had felt so out of place at the party: an actress/nanny sipping on expensive wine on the arm of a handsome doctor.
