The next day afterschool Miyah ran down the street. Her friend agreed to lie and say there were at her house hanging out as long as she got a piece of Miyah's lunch.
Miyah throw her bag in the bushes making sure she had Mr.Greg and went in the forest following the silver compass. Once she spotted the house she hid behind a tree. The big guy she bumped into the other day was there fixing something in the shed next to the house.
Miyah's heart raced. "What do we do now?" she whispered to Mr.Greg. She stared at him waiting for a reply. "Really? I can't sneak past him, what if he sees me?" She looked at Mr.Greg and sighed, "Okay okay I'll go." Miyah peered over to see Denis looking at a blue print before chopping some timber wood with his saw and grunting. She gathered some courage and ran to the already opened door to the house.
Miyah huffed, out of breath and scared for her life. "Oh hi Miyah" Miyah jumped nearly out of her skin at the voice. Kimberly stood at the top of the stairs. "Sorry I scared you. I didn't know Denis would still be here but he insisted to build something for me."
"What is he building?" Miyah asked.
Kimberly shrugged, "Beats me Denis doesn't tell me anything." She smiled, "So about getting to heaven...guess what I found out."
"What?
"Come with me." Kimberly ran upstairs and opened a draw with a post it note in it by itself. "Read it"
The note read:
Road to light will hear the call of those who release and seek not to gain. The road shall be revealed in a place where only darkness lives.
"Huh?" Miyah said confused and only reading up to the second line.
"Oh I forgot how young you were. Denis has a lot of maps in the shed and he tells me never to go and touch anything though I can't leave but I think there is a map that can lead me to heaven"
"A map..."
Kimberly nodded, "Will you help me get it?"
Miyah made Mr.Greg nod and she smiled.
"KIMBERLY!" A voice roared from downstairs.
"Stay here." Kimberly whispered to Miyah. She then vanished.
"Yes Denis?"
"I need more wood I'll be back shortly. Don't get in to trouble."
"How can I? Can't leave the house remember."
Denis grunted and walked off with his big black boots. Miyah slowly creeped downstairs. "Is he gone?"
Kimberly nodded. "This is our chance."
Miyah walked outside and looked around to check if the coast was clear before darting to the shed. She sat Mr.Greg by the doorway, "Keep watch." She proceeded inside and looked around. The was a bunch of maps in shelves along with sharp tools scattered around the shed. "Which one?" She looked over at Mr.Greg. "Great idea...Innie Minnie Miney mo catch a lion by the toe if you want to let it go innie minnie miney mo" Her finger stopped at a folded map in the center. She took it out and unraveled it to see that it was completely blank. "Hey where's the..." Miyah touched the paper and like magic a glowing writing appeared on the paper saying "Miyah Elise" in script. The words vanished and the whole thing glowed bright.
Once the light faded there was a full map on the page and on the top was the words "Road to heaven" Miyah smiled, "I found it look Greg I..." Miyah looked over to see a big shadow engulfing Mr. Greg and there in the doorway was a man with a plaid shirt and overalls and black boots, Denis. He grunted and walked over to Miyah and grabbed the map out of her hands. Miyah seen the map locations disappear.
Denis grabbed a axe that layer by a working table. "I don't accept trespassers in my shed." Miyah backed up in fear. "For the last time Kimberly ain't going to no heaven you got that. And no little girl is going to change that. I'll kill if need be, no one will save her but me DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!" Denis lifted his axe and swung.
