13 shifting

The garden was small but beautiful. There was a large tree, a swing, a duck pond and that's about it.
"You call this a-"
"A garden..." She reply's.
"Well it's beautiful." I smile. She shrugs. And then nods, "we got to get moving! And find who they are actually looking for so me can protect them." She says and starts running to a gate that was locked shut. "Fuck" I murmur.
She shrugs. "I got this my fren!" She says in a low excited tone. In the distance birds flew ahead indicating something bad. "The fire is catching up, we must-"
Done." I glance over and spot a hole under the fence. "I'm supposed to fit under there?" I ask. She shakes her head. Not like this. Suddenly she is on all fours. "Haha very funny." I say and roll my eyes.
"No we have to shift." She says and suddenly wear she was is a fox.i gasp. 'Okay patches your tune' I jump. "How did you-"
'It's an old fox thing I can talk to you in your mind so can you but this sadly only works in animal form, so HURRY AND SHIFT INTO A CHEETAH' She says I flinch, 'sorry I'm not used to someone else screaming in my mind other than me thank you very much!' I say back. She then slithers under the gate and out. 'I don't know how to-' I start.
'Just get calm. Think of what you want to be, no destructions and just do it!' I snicker. I have to concentrate. I think hard and get on all fours. "Cheetah cheetah cheetah" then when I'm in th e middle of that I shift. I look at my hands palm and see a dark brown pad. "Woah IM A CHEE-"
'okay let's move!' She says and starts running. ' Hey wait for me!'
'Pfft I don't need to wait toys cheetah! You can run 115 miles per hour!' She says and runs faster. I slide under the gate and run at full speed past her. She laughs. I stop and tell her to, 'hop on' she nods and leaps onto my back. Her claws dig into my fur. 'Ouch, can you lay off a bit?' I laugh she replys by a sorry!
We reach a small town but don't enter.
Amber shifts into her human or human with fox ears and tail...
"Why do we even get these when we turn, human again?" I say a 'human' again. She shrugs.
"It's only cause where young, when we get older we learn to control the ears and tails when we shift into humans. But whatever I like my tail!" She says hugging her tail.
"Sure okay anyway lets go into town, we need food." I say and start walking but she glides in front of me. "No we need to Hid our selves. Other wise people will see that we're different and hunt or even kill us down" she says with sadness in her orange eyes.
"Your right, hoods on!" We both slip our tail inside out hoodies and put our hoods on and go into the town.
