this's unedited, just like all of my work

"U-u-u-ugh." I open my eyes slowly and see I'm on the bottom bunk. Knowing Jay has an alarm clock, as it wakes us both up every morning, I roll over and check the time.

"Jayce?!" I whisper yell. "Are you up?!"

"Yeah," she leans over the edge of the railing.

"Dude, it's quarter to four, why are you up," I ask.

"Internet works better at night, when nobody else is using, duh, it's pure knowledge Mase."

I readjust myself a little bit and can see a sliver of light reflecting on the ceiling.

"Are you watching youtube? Or are you studying for once," I wonder.

"Bit of both."

"I see. How long have I been out?"

She looks at clock and replies "Nearly eleven hours, mate."

"Cr*p, no wonder I feel so awake all ready," I say, my voice still thick with sleep.

"Is that all you wanted to know or can I keep researching the art of microwaving Barbie's?" Jay asks me.

"Didn't you say something about some guys coming in to adopt someone today?" I ask recalling our last conversation.

"Yeah, about eleven hours ago, why?"

"I don't think they'll take me."

"Why not?" She asks in a motherly sort of tone.

"First of all, I'm moody and temperamental," I state.

"Well.. yeah, you are."

"And I'm unbelievably boring as a person in general," I continue.

"True," Jay agrees.

"I'm boring, lonely, anxious, I literally only have one friend, I don't get along with people easily- I swear to God Jayce, don't say anything!" I snap when I notice her lips start to move.

Jayce sighs and rolls out of my view "I'm going to bed."

"You're in a bed, Jay, technically there's nowhere to go," I point out.

"Mason, shut up, or I'm coming down there and forcing a sleeping pill down your throat!"

"K night."

I decide to try and sleep myself, even though I'm not tired, as visitors usually come at eleven thirty. After about an hour of trying, I finally fall asleep, a drugless sleep and dream of possibly getting adopted by a nice family.

I wake up again at 7.28, two minutes before the alarm is usually due to scare the daylights out of me. I turn the alarm off, knowing it'll piss Jay off if she wakes up even five minutes after the alarm is due, so I wait until she wakes up. Not even three minutes later, Jay wakes up and screams at me.

"MASON, WHY DIDN'T THE ALARM GO OFF AT 7.30?!"

"Because I turned it off?"

"You turned the alarm off?"

"Yep. And dude you don't even need it on anymore, you've proved through many power outages your body clock is used to it now," I point out.
