These past couple weeks of schooling have run pretty smoothly. I met the famous Oliver, whom it turned out is blind in his left eye and needs a hearing aid in his left ear. We talked for a bit and came to the conclusion that we recognised each other but 'I don't know from where'. We gave each other the 'I'm from the ICU' look.
Another somewhat eventful thing that happened was Hedy talked to me- oh wow. That's exciting, Mason! Well I mean, we're friends so obviously, yeah. But it's what she said to me.
"Hannah has a crush on you," Hedy had said, slamming my locker shut.
I had choked on air. "W-what?"
"She wants to know what you think of her. Friend or more?"I had looked over Hedy's shoulder to see Hannah, red faced and shaking, gripping onto Oliver's shirt and shooting me frequent questioning looks.
"I-I-"
"Mason, come on."
"I've liked her since the word go," I had mumbled.Hedy's eyes had widened and she'd jumped around on the spot clapping her hands together. "Really!?"
I nod, scratching the back of my neck.
"Ah, Masonnnnnn," she'd squealed, grinning. So that was great. Anyway, so that leads to today. The big day of questions. Or the day of the question? I don't know.
The school bell lets out a shrill ring, signalling that it's time for lunch and I get pushed into the sea of humans, the sane and the not so, alike. I see a certain sheet of long brown hair, swishing quickly just ahead and I push my way ahead, towards her.
"Hey Han- Hannah! Big shot!" She turned around at the nickname I'd given her.
"Y-yeah, Mase?" She asks, looking down, slightly.
"Doyouwanttobemygirlfriend?"
"English please, t-shirt?"
"First of all, I'm not English-"She pushes my shoulder lightly. "You know what I mean!"
I laugh and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Do you- want to- be my- girlfriend?.."
She looks up, her eyes wide and- puffy? Has she been crying this whole time and I didn't realise?
"R-really!?"
"Yeah..."
"Oh my god, yes!" She squeals and we hug, before she pulls away. She looks down again and I swear I hear her mumble a curse."Han-" I start.
"Hannah!" Hedy cuts me off.
Hannah looks up at Hedy and smiles weakly and Hedy immediately looks serious. "What's wrong?"
"H-help me," she mumbles.
"What'd you do?" Hedy asks.
"What- I just asked her to be my girlfriend? Why's she crying? I- what?"Hedy sighs and turns back to Hannah and points to her arm. Hannah nods.
"Oh babe, come on.."
She puts an arm around Hannah's shoulders and guides her towards the bathrooms.
"I- she said yes!" I call after them.
"Later, ok, Mason?" Hedy calls back over her shoulder.
"Ok, then?"I shake my head and look down towards the ground, so as to avoid any unwanted conversations with people of whom I've probably never met about what just happened. But whilst looking towards the ground, I see flecks of blood, right around where Hannah was standing, mere seconds ago. Blood... Hannah had been crying... Hedy seemed to know what was happening, did this mean that- no. Surely not. But it all adds up so well..
Snapping out of my thoughts when someone begins calling my name, I turn around to see Oliver running towards me, dodging several people and constantly on the verge of tripping.
"M-Mason," he huffs. "What- did I- what did I miss? Why'd- they- g-go- Oh god, M-Mason, you're shaking so badly."I shake my head as my vision starts to go. "What-? N-no I'm not..."
*:・゚✧ Oliver's P.O.V ✧ °•:*"M-Mason, you're shaking so badly."
He shakes his head rapidly, as he begins to sway.
"What-? N-no I'm not," he slurs slightly.
I reach out my hands to steady him, or lower him to the floor, hopefully, but it's no use. He collapses and I barely catch him as I scream for help.People around us move out to create a large circle as teachers coming rushing out of their classrooms to see what's going on.
"What's happe- Oh! SOMEBODY CALL FOR AN AMBULANCE!!" A teacher yells at nobody in particular.A few people shakily take out their phones and call emergency services, whilst others go and find other teachers.
"What is it? Who is it? What's happened?" Mrs Argon, the principal, enquires of the student that dragged her out of her office, which is just down the hall."Move! Move out of the way! Go to lunch, all of you," she instructs the crowd, and most of which obey, but still look over their shoulders frequently. "Oh, oh no. It's the new student. The poor Lester-Howell boy... somebody has called for help?"
"Y-yes miss, we just did, they're on their way," a senior student, with long braided purple hair answers.Mrs Argon nods and purses her lips together. She kneels besides us and looks up at me. "You're his friend?"
I nod.
"How long's he been out?"
"Two, maybe three minutes."
"What was going on around that time?"
"Just general conversation, miss. But then he- he started to sway and I, I barely caught him."
She nods and knots her eyebrows together. Then something clicks. "Mrs Argon? Does- does he still have leuka-?"
She nods, her facial expression showing one of stress. Our beaked nosed principal places a hand on Mason's forehead and and the other on the side of his neck.
"He's freezing.. yet his heart seems to be racing like mad."We sit there for another five minutes before the paramedics show up. They rush Mason to the ambulance and I jump in the back with him, despite the paramedics protests.
Whilst Mason is being hooked up to an oxygen mask and other machines, I fish around his backpack, which he's still wearing, and pull out his phone. I take my chances and press the home button, expecting the password screen but hoping not, and to my surprise (and my wishes) he doesn't have a password set yet. Opening up his contacts I scroll through his weird contact names and try to find one of his Dad's when I see 'Dad 1 - PHIL LESTER UR A GENIUS!!1!'
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hello? Mason, aren't you in school?" A voice says down the line.
Me: M-Mr Lester?
Phil: Sorry, is this not Mason?
Me: No, no this's his friend, Oliver.
Phil: Hi Oliver. So why are you calling me from my sons phone- is something wrong!? Oh my god, are those sirens in the background!?
Me: Y-yeah, I'm currently in the back of an ambulance with him- he's collapsed just some ten minutes ago.
Phil: Holy sh*t, ok. Ok. DAN!! WE NEED TO GO!! Thank you Oliver, thank you so so much, we'll see you at the hospital.
Me: Yeah..He hangs up and I sigh, and lean my head back, against the chair I'm sat in. Why must all phanfics be so depressing?
