(Chapter 2) Welcome to New York

(Flash back)

"Now don't be like that, Axel. You'll have lots of friends at this school, lots of lady friends too," My father said with a wink.

My mother gave him a light poke and mumbled something under her breath.

My father began to laugh.

"Dad I don't care about that, I'm not going to miss my "Friends" at my old school. They were assholes."

My father laughed again, my mother gave another poke.

We drove into a tunnel, it was dark inside and was lit eerily by many orange lights. I could hear the sound of the wind go by our car as it was confined to the tunnel.

"Dad how much longer till we get there?" I asked, for the hundredth time.

"Any minute son, you should be able to see it as soon as we get out of this tunnel," replied my father.

And just as he said, we seemingly burst out of the tunnel and could see the brightly lit city. It was night time and every building seemed to have a light on it, it was like the nightlight of the world.

I gasped and said, "Wow."

This was my first time seeing such a large city. I'd lived in a small town most of my life so this was totally new to me.

"Dad! Where are we going to live!?" I asked eagerly.

"Well we are going to be staying at the "Ivory suites hotel" until our things arrive in the city, they should get to our new apartment sometime tomorrow, it's a very nice place, not cheap either. But with this new promotion we can afford to relax a bit."

The promotion my dad was talking about is the reason we moved out here, we came all the way from Indiana. His employers said they need a new supervisor right away and that he's the best guy they have available. They must have really needed him because they tripled his pay!

My parents were worried the move would be hard on me, they thought I'd miss my friends. But I didn't have any friends. It's not because I'm shy or anything, but because they all annoyed me. They were all so immature and stupid, I couldn't stand to be around them. I'm glad we left, I hoped I'd meet someone that could control themselves.

"Axel, make sure you have all your things ready," said my mother.

"Alright," I replied.

I shifted around in the back seat, kicking off my blanket. I grabbed my bag and started gathering the stuff I had brought along with me. I grabbed my wallet, my comic books, my iPhone, and my PSP and put them in my bag.

I kept my phone on me.

Next, I folded up my blanket and put it on my pillow, and finally I found my shoes and put them back on my feet.

"I'm ready mom," I said with unnoticed excitement.

"Good, we'll be pulling into the city in a few minutes," my mother replied.

(Present day)

"Fuck.... I'm starving!!! Let's go Gregg!"

I demanded.

"Shut the hell up! There was a light bulb that needed changing! I actually DO my job kid!"

Gregg snapped back.

"Yeah yeah yeah. Let's just go already I'm suuuuuper hungry!" I said with anticipation.

"Fine! Let's go then! Geez....."

Replied Gregg.

Gregg and I rushed through a door leading into an alley. I quickly climbed up a wall and got to the top of a building. Gregg arrived shortly after I did.

"Took ya long enough, old timer. Hahaha!"

I said teasingly.

Gregg looked kind of old, despite his vampire immortality. I think he was turned sometime is his late fifties maybe early sixties but now I think he's actually around one hundred and thirty.

"Shut up kid or I'll knock your block off." Gregg replied.

"As if you could!"

I snapped back.

We often argued and playfully threatened each other. It's like a game to us.

"Okay kid, enough screwing around. You pick your own kill today. What do you look out for?"

"Um....well first I need to find someone walking alone. Then I need to make sure no one is following them already. Then use manipulation to try and scare them into an alley. Then move in for the kill before they can start screaming for help.

I stated.

"Good, now go do it!"

Says Gregg as he pushes me off our rooftop.

I don't panic as I fall, I've jumped off higher buildings before and I was fine so I didn't fret over this one, I gracefully turned in the air as I fell and landed gently on my feet.

I started walking along the street just as I had several times before. I kept walking until I found an appropriate target.

They had just stepped out of their car. She was a pretty, young, she had short brown hair and had on a very slutty dress. I could see her panties from across the street, they were Pink....

I mumbled "Damn. You're asking for trouble dressing like that...."

"Well, I'm after her blood not her body. Let's just finish this thing."

I looked around to make sure no one was around, no one was.

I flew across the street with extreme speed. I lunged at her when I was a couple feet away. I broke her neck instantly. She hadn't even had time to make a noise.

"Well the hard part is over. Let's get you somewhere safe so I can enjoy you properly."

I picked up her body and flung it over my shoulder. I quickly climbed up a building and laid her down.

I looked at the street below to once again check and make sure no one had seen me, everything was calm.

I turned back to my dinner. I took her face in my hand and looked at her, she wasn't as pretty up close. She had large bags under her eyes. I remember thinking she must not sleep well.... I can relate. I often have nightmares, they keep me up at night.

Shaking the memory I turn her head away and lick my lips, I suddenly attack her neck! My now elongated fangs tearing into her weak skin, I start losing myself in my thirst and get more violent, I start tearing the flesh from her neck so I can get more blood.

My hands wrap around her arms and crush her bones I can hear the distinct SNAP echo around me. Minutes go on this way and soon her whole body is mutilated, I finally pull away from what was left of my dinner, her body is loosely being held together by her muscle and broken bones.

"Geez, I'm such a messy eater, I've got blood all over my clothes. This shirt is completely ruined and these were my favorite shorts, damn."

"Well let's get you to the BDA." (Body Disposal Area)

The BDA is where all the vampires of the city bring their victims remains, oddly enough it is hidden in a clothing store on the very edges of the city, which tends to be helpful from time to time because messy eaters like myself often need new clothes, hahaha, its very helpful and it keeps our world from being discovered.

I pick up my dinner, her arm falls off....I pick it up and rush off to the BDA.

(Flash back)

"Axel, we are finally here," said my father.

"Awesome, what's the apartment number, Mom?" I asked.

My mother replied, "It should be 973. It's near the top of the building. Axel, Welcome to New York."
