(Chapter 6) Hunted
After running for a few minutes and jumping from rooftop to rooftop Lisa eventually was kicking to violently to be carried so I sat her down.
"What the hell was that?!" Lisa asked.
"Well, you see... I... Don't really know what to tell you." I reply.
She stares at me for a while, then asks. "What are you?..."
"I'm... I'm... Sorry. I can't..." I whisper.
She responds. "Alright. We all have our secrets. I understand. But , I hope someday we will become close enough so that you can tell me what you really are. "she gave me an oddly reasuring and trusting smile.
"So, any chance you can take me home?" Lisa asks.
"Um. Yeah. Sure." I respond nervously.
Lisa walks towards me. "Don't sling me over your shoulder this time though! haha!" she said teasingly.
Laughing back I put one of my hands on her back and my other under her leg near her knee, I lift her up and lift her close to my chest, she then wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled herself closer. It felt oddly... Good.
Lisa told me her adress, and as I got closer I realized she lived in a gated community. It was a simple task to scale the wall and rush to her house unseen. Once we arrived at her house I said to her. "Wow. This is a nice place. You live in such a good neighborhood." And then I asked.
"What were you doing in such a bad part of the city?"
"Well, as you can see my family has money. But we weren't always in such good shape. We used to be pretty poor and my father and I lived with our grandparents, until my father won the lottery. That very day we moved out of my grandparents house without a word and he never spoke to them again. They're still as poor as ever and my father hasnt given them anything."
"I love my grandparents and I miss them a lot so I go and help them out at their corner grocery store. It was near where you saved me. My dad isn't around much anymore, He's always off spending his money. He comes home a few times a month and gives me money for food and stuff, I give some of it to my grandparents. They don't like to accept the money but they know they need it."
"Gosh. I'm rambling. Sorry." Lisa said.
"Oh it's alright. I like hearing you talk. It's been awhile since I've had a conversation with someone besides Gregg." I stated.
"Gregg? Who's that?" Lisa asked
"I guess you could say Gregg is my care taker. I should probably try to find him tonight. In fact I should be going now." I said.
"Oh...alright..." Lisa said sounding disappointed.
"I could come see you tomorrow night if you'd like." I offered.
"I'd really like that!" Lisa said happily.
"Well, I'll be going now." I say as I turn to leave.
As I begin to walk Lisa grabs my hand and pulls me back. Quickly hugging me and giving me a kiss on my cheek.
She quickly runs inside right after.
I was slightly embarrassed and could feel my face getting red.
I leave the area quickly and find my way back into the city.
Where could Gregg be? We never discussed where we would meet if something happened.
Feeling hungry I take a blood bag from my bag and quickly suck it dry. I look down at the remaining blood bags still feeling thirsty. I shake the feeling and remind myself I have to pace myself.
Come on. Gotta focus. Gregg. I need to find Gregg.
I simply begin running from rooftop to rooftop stopping occasionally to sniff at the air, looking for Gregg's familiar scent. hours go by this way until finally I catch a whiff of him. I could smell his signature "old man" scent and followed it. It only took me a few moments to catch up to him.
"Gregg!" I yelled.
"Kid! Thank goodness I found you! Something is wrong. Someone is-"
Right as Gregg was talking a shower of small metallic objects rained down on us!
"What are these?" I ask as I pick one of the objects up.
"No!" Gregg screams as he runs at me and smacks it from my hand and tackles me to the ground!
"What the hell Gregg-" suddenly the objects begin to glow and quickly set off a series of small explosions!
"Kid! We need to move! Now! Follow me!" Gregg yells.
He jumps up to a higher rooftop and sprints away. I follow as instructed, every turn Gregg made I followed close behind. We ran like this for several minutes. Covering miles in a short time.
Eventually he stopped but was obviously worried, his head darted every which way for several seconds as if looking for something.
"Gregg. What's going on? What was that back there?!" I questioned.
"I don't know why. But we have been targeted by vampire hunters. We need to get somewhere safe." Gregg said quickly.
"You've never told me anything about vampire hunters! Are they humans?! Vampires?!" I questioned.
Gregg replied. "No. Worse..."
"Well what are they then?!" I asked losing my patience.
Suddenly I hear distant howls, the likes of which I've never heard before.
Gregg quickly whispers "Werewolves."
