(Chapter 11) Retreat
"Shit! Where do we go now?! I ask Terra making sure I stay in the shadows.
"Well could you carry something over your head to stay out of the sun?" Terra asked.
"No I can't. Indirect sunlight affects us over time. I'll end up burning." I reply.
"Oh! Jump into this dumpster! Then I can push you away!
"Grrr! Fine! Lets just get out of here! There are some docks and shipping containers near by, take me there.
I hop into the dumpster and slam the lid down.
"Lets go!' I yell from inside the trash bin.
Terra chuckles slightly as she starts pushing it towards the dock, no doubt enjoying the fact that I'm in a dumpster.
After several bumpy minutes we arrive at the dock.
With a crash my ride slams into the side of a large shipping container.
"Hey! Watch it!" I yell.
"Chill, Jerk. I just saved your ass for like the fifth time today. Show some gratitude!" Tara said angrily.
"Alright, you've got a point. Thank you." I responded.
"Now thats more like it! Haha!... It's safe to come out, we're in some heavy shade and you can get inside one of these cargo crates if you need to." Tara said.
I push the dumpster open slowely, checking to make sure no rays of sunlight were going to land on me. Everything was fine so I quickly hopped out of the trash.
"What will you do now, Axel?" Tara asked.
"I have no idea... I can't go back to my home and I can't ask Gregg for advice...
This world is still new to me, I don't know were to go. I'll just wander. Maybe I'll get out of the city for a while. I just wish I could have heard what Gregg wanted to say... Where did he want me to go? And who's Avian?""I have a feeling you'll figure it out. We make a good team, you're a good fighter... For a vampire..." Tara said as she grinned.
"Oh yeah? Well you're not to bad for a shapeshifter! Haha!" I said while grinning back.
"Well, I'm getting out of here. If you need to find me, try coming to Time Square sometime. I like hanging out there. See you around!" Tara said as she darted away.
I was all alone now with no where to go.
I nervously stared in the direction of the building I had just come from, scared someone would follow. Surprisingly no one did. Faced with no other choice I sat and waited for night. My stomach rumbled angrily, showing I was hungry. I reached into my bag but soon discovered it was ruined and the blood bag and money had fallen out. I tossed my bag into the back of the cargo container in anger.
"This is bullshit! I'm so hungry... But all my cash is gone and I had my fresh meal less than three days ago. And I can't ask Sara for a freebie, that wouldn't be right. I guess I have no choice but to wait for a while." I said to myself.
The last piece of sunlight disappeared behind the horizon showing it was finally safe to move about the city.
I start walking towards the sidewalk with my hands in my pockets plotting my next move.
