Manhattan ⇻ The Avengers [1]

chapter fifteen

Alison had pulled the comms unit out of her ear as soon as Fury got the message across, not wanting to hear the other people on them talking about others who were injured in the attack. She blinked fiercely as she made her way to the main room, trying to keep herself awake and walking.

Many of the people that she passed looked at her weirdly, probably because of the fact that her hair was still on fire and her skin let off wisps of smoke every so often. It made her want to find somewhere to hide, she hoped that they didn't expect her there right away, if they didn't she might be able to call George or Holly before she really had to go see the other Avengers.

The pyrokinetic decided that they could probably wait a few more minutes for her, and if not, she might not be missing anything important. Although it would probably be important.

Alison pulled out Kae's (she supposed that it was also her's) phone from one of the pockets of the SHIELD issued combat suit that they had been given. Punching in the number to the animal shelter as fast as she could, she finally brought the phone up to her ear.

"Kae?" it was George who had answered the phone, "Is everything okay?"

"Um," Alison paused, unsure of how he would react as they had never actually met her, "It's Alison actually."

"Alison?" he seemed confused, "Oh! Are you alright?"

"I'm... not sure," she appreciated the fact that he didn't make a big deal about it being her or ask what happened, but instead asked if she was okay, "There was an explosion... and no one was listening... and now Kae isn't here... and neither are Gen or Winter... I don't know where they went..."

George was silent for a little while, but then he spoke again, "Are you safe?"

"I think so," Alison breathed, trying to pat down the fire in her hair.

"So that's the two most important questions out of the way," the medium said, "So what are you going to do now."

"I'm supposed to be going to a meeting with the other Avengers, but I... just... didn't want to right away."

Before he had a chance to respond, a faint voice broke in from the background, "Who is that, George?"

"It's Alison," he replied, more faintly this time though, as if he were covering the phone with his hand.

"Who's- Ohhhh!" Holly seemed to have her moment of realization as well, "That's your sister, right?"

Okay... so she didn't have her moment of realization...

"No, Addison's my sister," George told their colleague, "Alison's the one in the Kae Squad that we hadn't met before. You know, other than talking through Kae or the others."

The pair called them the Kae Squad when referencing them? How had they not known this until now? Alison supposed that comparatively, Legion was both easier to say and cooler.

"Alison?" George asked a few moments later, "Are you still there?"

"Yeah," she responded hesitantly, "I think I should probably go to the meeting now."

"Alright, I hope it goes well," he encouraged pleasantly, "Good luck, Alison. I hope that I'll have another chance to speak to you soon."

"Thanks," Alison smiled, even though she knew that he couldn't see it, and pressed the end call button, heading off more confidently to where the rest of the Avengers would be gathered.

I've been quite busy today, so I didn't write as much as I wanted to today (as I'm exhausted and want to go to sleep), hence the shorter chapter, however, we did get another chapter with Holly and George. I didn't plan for them to really be in any other chapters other than maybe one of the last few, however, when I wrote myself into this situation I was pleasantly surprised. It gave me a way to develop George's character more. I somewhat modeled him in this situation after my friend tabdancer1, who  always helps me through tough anxiety moments. Hopefully there will be more of those two in the future, and potentially more of Alison other than this small bit of the movie (at least I hope so). Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you all again on Friday (If you didn't read the previous author's note, please go and do so now). :)
