Chapter 14

Everyone is here sitting in the living room except for Cato. I here a knock on the door but my mom beats me there. She opens the door to reveal none other then Cato.

"You must be Katniss' mother, I'm Cato," he says kissing her hand and handing her the bouquet of flowers he was holding.

Gross, I think she blushed.

I feel a hand poke my arm causing me to look over and see Prim.

"I don't trust him," Prim says glaring over at him.

"At least someone is on my side," I mutter.

Cato walks over to Prim,"And you must be Katniss' sister. I brought you something," he reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a bag of peppermint candy,"don't eat it before dinner."

Prim squeals and gives him a hug,"thank you, thank you, thank you."

I roll my eyes. Once Cato walks away with my mother I look over at Prim,"Traitor."

She shrugs and follows them to the living room.

Everyone talks for a bit until my mom calls us for dinner.

I wasn't really in a rush to get there so I let everyone else sit first. Once I do get up I find that the only seat open is between Prim and Cato. I hesitantly take a seat. We all sit in awkward silence until my mom decides to speak up.

"So, how are you guys liking District 12?"

No one answers until Effie decides to say something.

"Well it has an interesting smell."

After that we eat in silence. Once dinner is over I help my mom with the dishes while everyone talks in the living room. When we're done I head out to the living room and see everyone putting there coats on.

"It's getting late so we're heading out," says Haymitch.

Everyone heads to the door and walks out. The last person to leave is Cato. He leans in and kisses me on the cheek,"Goodnight Katniss," he says with a smirk on his face then walking out and closing the door as he leaves.

I stand there stunned. I kind of want to wipe my cheek yet I like the feeling that kiss left behind.
