~ Chapter One ~
It's been two years since my brother passed. He didn't get to live out senior year, graduate or get into his dream school. That night on my surfboard I decided that in my senior year I would get accepted into Charlie's dream school, Eckerd.
I can't apply for a few months so here I am standing in front of my mirror, looking extremely average getting ready for the insanity of Senior year. I had Dirty blonde hair that reached the bottom of my bra, blue eyes and I had faint freckles splattered on my nose. Nothing about me was particularly special but I was ok with that. Everyone says senior year is where you meet the most people and have the most fun. It can't be just me who is thinking that can't be true at all.
I started to get ready for the first day of school. I was quick not lingering on anything particular. I had slipped on a pair of dark denim shorts and a black tank, over the black tank I put on a baggier black tank with a white tiger printed on it and my hair was left down as usual. With a final glance in my mirror I headed down the stairs to my kitchen.
If it's possible to smell heaven then I am pretty sure heaven smells like whatever is in my kitchen. As I enter the brightly light kitchen my eyes land on food. Lots of food. From the homemade chocolate chip waffles to the scrambled eggs and bacon. Something big must be happening because I don't usually get to enjoy this luxury.
No one is in my kitchen but there's a plate made up for me with a rose and a piece of paper. I sat my self down in the chair and opened the little note. It said, 'Have a great Senior Year sweetie! Make some friends this year, particularly a girl one. You will be fine We love you! ~ Mom and Dad. Oh and by the way the rose was dropped off this morning. The mailman said it was from Diego.'
There was bad news hidden amongst all the good food. I bet my parents didn't even see the bad news, they probably thought it was genuine of him after our breakup. My parents don't know the real story though, therefore they don't see the bad news. Sexy, Spanish news but bad news all consisting of that name, Diego. He was my ex, and he was an ex for a reason.
August 2, 2014 is the day he ruined my heart. I walked in on him admist a deep make out session with some slut in our grade. Diego and I had been dating for about 10 months when I walked in on him and the girl. I never talked to him again and a petty rose wouldn't change anything. So his gift was now broken petals amongst some trash and leftover eggs.
I told my self not to linger on him. So I grabbed my bag and skateboard, slipped on my vans and headed to senior year. Even the name sounds scary, almost intimidating. It was senior year. It was a mere 10 minute skate to school, but I almost wished it was longer. I had refused to talk to anyone after the Diego incident so when I saw my best friend skating in the parking lot, I couldn't hold it in any longer.
"WILL!" I screamed as he landed a backside 180. He turned and looked at me giving me his cute little smile, where one side pulls a little bit higher than the other.
His smile calms me every time I see it so it wasn't that surprising how his smile sent me running towards him. His arms are like a safe place and once I'm in them I never want to leave.
"I'm sorry" I whisper into his chest.
"It's ok, You needed space" he whispers back into my hair.
I back away from his hold and look up at him. A month away from each other and he hasn't changed a bit. Still has a flop of chocolate brown hair, quirky smile, and that scar above his left eye from the time we fell out of his tree house.
"Let's head in" Will says picking up his board.
"Let's" I say with a smile.
