My phone sat in front of me not lighting up, not vibrating, and not making a noise. It was Friday on Labor Day weekend, I surfed for Spencer Wednesday but I haven't heard, anything since then. Spencer said he would call when he had decided if I was good enough, it's been two days! He should've decided already.
"Ok Mads we need to get you to do something productive" Will says hopping through my window.
"Will I need to wait for the call! This is my life on the line!" I whine.
"Ugh Maddie you sounded so girly there!" Will faked gags "I have a perfect idea of something we can do today!"
I look outside, labour day weekend was shaping up to be really nice. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue and few clouds floated around. The leaves on the trees were as green as ever and there was a light breeze drifting in brought my open window.
I would actually love to go out and do something and just forget about life. I haven't really spent time with Will in forever and I kinda miss that. We used to spend every waking hour together since we met. He is like my rock, in a way he keeps me grounded and true to myself.
This one time we went to the zoo and we were standing beside the hippo tank on the upper part and this hippo made a weird grunting noise. Like this noise wasn't a normal hippopotamus noise it was really low and gruff with a slight higher pitch near the end of the noise. Anyway it spooked Will so much he jumped up on this ledge that made only 4 feet of glass between Will and the tank. After he jumped he turned around and saw the hippo who made the noise again. Letting off the biggest and girliest scream possible Will jumped again, one leg flying over the glass and he sacked himself. It was one of the very first memories I've made with Will.
I turned to Will about to give him my answer as I smile to myself about this memory when I peered down at my cell phone which was perched on my lap. It refreshed and a picture came up saying 0 new messages.
"Will I can't! I need to wait for this text" I say apologetically.
"Isn't it better to leave your phone here, forget about it and then by the time we get back there will be a text?" Will questions me.
"Well... I guess you have a point, but I still need to find money because frankly I am quite broke. Literally I have no money whatsoever, but I guess my mom would give me money if I asked politely but my dad thinks it's pointless I don't have a real job. Everything goes toward Eckard though so it's not like I purposely spe-"
"Shut up and meet me in the car mads" Will says chuckling, breaking me out of talking.
Will exits my bedroom heading downstairs giving me a few minutes to myself. I turn my phone on silent mode and throw it in my back pocket of my shorts.
My mom is sitting downstairs talking to Will and pouring syrup on two cinnamon waffles.
"Morning mom!" I say with a newfound cheeriness to my voice.
"I made you breakfast! Now I would love to stay in to chat but I've been called in to work! Some emergency with a client or something your father can't handle" my mom says apologetically.
My parents both work in the business career. When Charlie died they quit their previous jobs and started to build their own business company. They are trying hard but the company is small and they are struggling with it. I offered to help them out but they don't even have enough to pay me if I did plus frankly I would suck at the job.
As my mom frantically rushes about grabbing her stuff then leaving the house I finish my waffles and turn to Will.
"So what's the plan?" I say with a small smile.
