Connor sat at a table beside a few other guys his age, stuck in a fairly big sized common room. His parents had sent him to rehab for his drug problem, and he groaned inwardly as the instructor called for everyone's attention. "Okay boys, please make a circle in the middle of the room with your chairs." She instructed kindly. Grabbing his chair and dragging it over, Connor sat down with a huff. He crossed his arms and glared, making the other teens around him fidgit uncomfortably. A short boy with dirty blonde hair sat down next to him. He glanced over, seeing the boy was a nervous wreck. He was fiddling with his cast and staring at his shoes. Connor's attention was grabbed back as the instructor spoke. "Since we have a few new faces here today, lets go ahead and introduce ourselves and why we're here." She smiled kindly. "Jacob, how about you go first?" The boy mentioned had spiky ginger hair and blue eyes, stood up wearily. "I'm Jacob, and I'm here because I have a heroine addiction." He sat back down. Connor zoned out the other boys until he heard the instructor call his name. "How about you, Connor?" Connor rolled his eyes and stood up. "I'm Connor, and I'm here because I like weed." He smirked and sat back down. The instructor gave him a look before continuing. "Evan?" The boy next to Connor stood up slowly. "I-im Evan, and I'm h-here because I'm a-addicted to my anxiety m-medicine." He stuttered. Connor was amused at how cute Evan looked when he was nervous. Evan sat back down and started fiddling with the hem of his shirt. The rest of the day went by boring as usual, the instructor giving them useless tips on how to cope with their addictions. As everyone went to their assigned rooms, Connor was faintly surprised to see Evan sitting on the other bed. He appeared to be writing in a journal. Evan's head snapped up, and he started to shake. He was clearly going into a panic attack. Connor rushed over and sat beside him on the bed, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Dude, calm down. Just focus on breathing." He cooed to the shorter male. Evan closed his eyes and focused. A few minutes later, he was breathing somewhat normally again. He turned to Connor. "T-thanks, c-Connor." He muttered. Connor just nodded and headed to his own bed. As Evan went into the bathroom they shared to brush his teeth, Connor grabbed his stash he had managed to smuggle in. He lifted the window and lit the blunt, inhaling and breathing smoke out of his nose. Evan came out and stared in horror. "C-Connor! You're going t-to get in trouble!" He sputtered. Connor shrugged, puffing it one last time before throwing it out the window. "I won't if they don't find out." He said nonchalantly, as he laid down on top of his blanket. Evan stood frozen for a second, unsure of what to do. Connor perked an eyebrow at him. "That is, if you don't rat me out." He growled. Evan shook his head vigorously. "O-of course I won't." Connor watched for a bit as Evan wrote into his journal, and put it on his bedside table and turned over. As he heard soft snores coming from the boy, Connor got out of bed slowly and snuck over to the table, grabbing the book in his hand. He read it over:
Dear Evan Hansen,
Today is going to be a good day, and here's why. Well, I mean it's not exactly good considering you're in rehab, but it's not that bad. You're roommates with an attractive guy atleast. The others find him kinda intimidating, but I'm sure he's a kind person once you get to know him. I hope we can become friends. I'm having withdrawals from not having my meds, but I guess that's just a step towards recovery. I caught Connor smoking weed in our room.. but I wouldn't rat him out. If it helps calm him down, then I'm happy for him. Hopefully tomorrow will be alright.Sincerely, me.
Connor's face grew red as he read the sentence about him again. Evan thinks I'm attractive? No one's really said that before.. Connor shook his head and headed back to his bed after placing the book back down.
(Timeskip brought to you by your dead gay son.)
Evan groaned as he was woken up by knocks on he and Connor's shared room. "Wake up, boys!" he heard the female instructor call before making her way towards another room. Evan sat up, rubbing his eyes blearily. He glanced over to see Connor wasn't in bed. Just as he thought that, Connor emerged from the bathroom wearing a black hoodie, ripped up skinny jeans and his hair pulled back into a messy bun. Evan's face grew hot as he admired how attractive Connor looked with his hair pulled back. Not realizing he was staring, he flinched as Connor met his gaze. His blue eyes looked like they knew something, but Evan wasn't sure what. As they made their way to the common room, Connor stayed by Evan's side. Finally as everyone settled down, Connor glanced at Evan. "Hey, ev.. I, uh.. was wondering if you uh.. wanted to go out with me? After we get out of this hellhole of course." He smiled at Evan. Evan's heart raced as he processed the question. "YES! I mean, I-i.. uhm.. of course!" He said happily. Connor grinned as they began talking about their lives at home. Apparently, Connor's dad was a homophobic jackass. He frequently kicked Connor out of the house. While Evan's dad was abusive towards his mother and himself, but left when he was 7. So he and his mom were alone most of the time. Connor nodded in sympathy, apologizing. Evan shook his head. "N-no, don't be." He murmured. "Hey, atleast now we can both pretend someone gives a shit." Connor chuckled. "Y-yeah.." Evan responded, blushing. As the day went on, Connor held his hand discreetly under the table as to not draw attention to their displays of affection. Soon enough, night came again and they headed back to their room. As Evan shut the door, he bumped into Connor since he had entered first. Evan glanced up at the tall boy, who just lifted his chin and kissed him. They stood like that for a bit, but broke apart and grinned. A little bit later, they both headed to their respective beds. As Evan turned out the lamp, he heard Connor say something to him through the darkness. "Goodnight, Ev." Evan smiled and whispered. "Goodnight Connor. Thank you for making all this.. a-a bit more bearable." Connor shot him a thumbs up as he turned over. Evan fell asleep smiling, his dreams lighthearted and of their possible future together.
Yo guys, so I don't really know how rehab works, so I just kinda based this off of my time I spent at a mental hospital. I'm not sure if the routine is the same or not, but oh well. I know this is a bit cliche and rushed, and I apologize. Next oneshot should be out soon.
