Evan was stuffing his textbooks into his overly filled locker, as he heard footsteps approach behind him. nervously, he turned around quickly to see a group of guys, all seniors like himself. The "leader" of the group stepped forward, his jet black curly hair messy and his brown eyes filled with twisted amusement. Evan recognized him to be Michael Jones, the football quarterback for the school. Evan stared up in fear as Michael just smirked.
"Hey Hansen.. how's it going buddy?" He sneered, bending down so he was level with Evan.
"I-I.. um.." Evan sputtered. Michael just rolled his eyes and shoved him back. Evan could feel the sharp edges of the locker stabbing into his skin as Michael held him by his shirt.
"We haven't talked much in awhile, maybe it's time for some catching up." He snarled the last few words before punching Evan in the stomach. Evan gasped for air as he was winded by the blow, unable to speak or cry for help. Michael's gang cheered him on as he began kicking and punching Evan as he lay on the ground in a fetal position. Tears escaped his eyes as pain radiated through his entire body. I need Connor.. he thought rapidly, his best friend's image staying in his mind. After being kicked several times, Evan's vision was beginning to blur and black spots formed at the edges. He heard a gruff voice scream across the hallway, racing up to him and kneeling in front of him.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? He never did a damn thing to you. I suggest you fucking leave if you know what's good for you." He heard the voice snarl. Evan blearly looked up and saw Connor's familiar black hoodie. He smiled softly, his best friend had come afterall.
"Oh no boys, the school drug freak is protecting his homo boyfriend!" Michael laughed, before glaring Connor in the eyes.
"You better watch yourself, Murphy." He smirked as he turned around and stalked off, his gang following him. Connor turned to Evan, picking up the weak and beaten boy bridal style and hurriedly made his way to the nurses office.(Timeskip to the weekend)
Evan was healing well, but he was still sore in places because of his bruises. Connor and Evan sat in Evan's room, working on homework and joking around about school and some of their teachers. Evan jumped when he heard pounding on the front door, immediately he was confused.
Mom isn't supposed to be home until midnight.. did she get off early?Evan quickly left his bedroom and down the stairs to the door. He opened it, expecting to see Heidi but his heart dropped as he recognized the sneering faces of Michael and his gang. He slammed the door and locked it as Michael stepped forward, sliding down against the door into a panic attack. Tears streamed down his face as he hyperventilated. Connor hurried down the steps, immediately concerned with Evan's state.
"Ev, who was at the door?" He asked.
Evan was hyperventilating too hard to speak. Connor's eyes narrowed, and he gently moved Evan away from the door before opening it himself.
"What the fuck do you bastards want?" He snapped.
"Oh, we were just wondering if Evan could come out to talk." Michael replied in a sickly sweet voice. Connor gritted his teeth and stepped out, slamming the door behind him. Evan let out a choked sob as he scrambled to get to his feet and throw open the door.
"C-Connor!" He screamed as he saw him nose to nose with Michael.
"Get back in the house, Evan." Connor snapped. Evan stared in horror as he saw Connor punch Michael in the face, sending him staggering back a bit. He glared, hatred filling his eyes.
"Get him." Michael growled, and his gang circled Connor. Connor screamed in fury as he was held in a lock by a much stronger boy, holding him by his arms as the others threw punches at his body. Evan was paralyzed, unable to move as he watched his best friend get beaten. Red flooded his vision as he saw Connor's nose bleeding and one eye closed, and he jumped up.
"Get the fuck off him you cowards!" Evan screamed. They all froze, and turned to stare at Evan. Michael grinned menacingly as he slowly approached the smaller boy.
"And what exactly are you going to do about it?" He growled lowly. Evan scrambled for words, but the sound of sirens in the distance saved him from having to reply. Michael's eyes went wide, and he turned around and ran straight out of the yard. His gang followed him, dropping Connor hard to the ground.
"Connor!" Evan cried, slumping down next to him. Connor had tears in his eyes as he stared up at Evan.
"I'm.. sorry, Evan." He murmured. Evan shook his head furiously.
"No, don't be sorry Connor. You did your best, and that's all that matters." Connor smiled as the police cars rolled up to the house.Later that day, Evan was allowed into Connor's hospital room. Evan stared in horror at the bandages and splints on his nose and leg. Connor smiled weakly at him as he entered.
"Evan." He said warmly.
Evan rushed over and hugged him tightly.
"I-I'm so sorry!" He cried. Connor rubbed his back comfortingly.
"It's alright Ev, I'm fine. I'd do it all again for you." He replied. Evan just sniffled and hugged him tighter. As silence drifted between them for a few moments, Connor spoke.
"So.. now that I got you here, do you want to go to prom with me after I've healed?" He asked, smirking. Evan's face went beer red as he pulled away sharply from Connor.
"W-wait, are you serious?" He stampered. "Youre not joking?"
"I'm as serious as I'll ever be." Connor shrugged, giving Evan another warm smile.
"So what do you say?"
Evan's smile spread across his face, and he practically screamed his response.
"YES! I-I mean, of course Connor!" He squealed. They both giggled and sat together, hands intertwined with eachother.
"Hey, Evan?" Connor asked
Evan turned his face to him.
"... I'd die for you, always remember that."(Woo for longer chapters! I hope you like this one.)
