Six months have passed since the siblings moved into the orphanage and worked for Starscream. They have witnessed their friends being adopted and said their share of farewells. The happy faces make (Y/n) wishes to get adopted as soon as possible, too, wondering how good life would be for her and her brother by then. To be able to live in a big house, being read bedtime stories and given good night kisses, everything looks good in her imagination. She has watched the car belonging to Starscream’s right-hand, Knockout, come and go with the children who got adopted. Over the months, they got to know all the children and befriend some, their shared fate and understanding of this living condition help them click with each other.

Sunday approaches in a blink of an eye. Smokescreen takes his sister to the park where most people gather in the afternoon. When they arrive, the ground is already packed with families with children, couples, and even some singles are enjoying themselves. The typical activities are all that they see: picnic blankets and baskets sprawled on many spots, some children run around with their pet or their toys while the adults are having pleasant conversations. The stalls located all around the park are selling many kinds of snacks that look really good, being crowded by peckish people who need light bites. The siblings are joined with a friend—(Y/n)’s, actually. Miko is an eccentric and cheerful girl of her same age, so it comes as no surprise that they become best friends in such a short time. As is the tradition, they begin to do their job.

Streaks of purple and orange hues color the sky above their heads a few hours later. While the sun slowly sets down, the three count their earnings for today. To Smokescreen’s relief, they have more than enough to deposit while getting some extras. He looks over (Y/n) and Miko who are talking among themselves happily, busy with gathering their things.

A small treat wouldn’t hurt them, right?

“(Y/n), Miko!” Smokescreen calls out to them, earning their attention. “Let’s go get some ice cream!”

The excited gasps and nods are enough answers for him. They dash towards him in seconds then walk over the ice cream truck located just near the entrance of the park. It doesn’t take long for them to hold an ice cream cone in hand, one for each of them. They sit on a nearby bench, enjoying the fruit of their work even for just a little.

“Nope.” Smokescreen shakes his head in disagreement. “Chocolate is definitely the best.”

Clearly, (Y/n) disagrees. “No, Smokey, strawberry is!"

Miko looks at the two of them with yet another disapproving face. “Nu-uh, you guys are boring!” She exclaims. “Mint chocolate chip is the one and only.”

The childish argument ensues while they are savoring their ice cream. Laughter and teases are exchanged, especially Miko and Smokescreen teasing (Y/n) mercilessly. She is just too easy to tease.

The only boy of the group looks over to a direction, his eyes squinting a little. Smokescreen gets up from the bench after finishing his ice cream, looking at the other two. “I’ll be right back in a sec,” he tells them, “Don’t go anywhere, ‘kay?”

(Y/n) and Miko nods and watches Smokescreen walk away. Soon, they also finished their ice cream. Miko is staring at the children playing at the playground, an idea popping up in her head in an instant.

“Let’s play there, (Y/n)!” She points at the playground with a big smile on her face.

Clearly, (Y/n) does not look convinced. “But, Smokey said—”

“Aw, c’mon!” Miko cuts her off with a small pout. “It’s only like, ten steps away! He won’t mind.”

“But Sir Starscream forbids us to play, remember?” (Y/n) tries to remind her.
