(Y/n) returns to her apartment feeling exhausted physically and mentally.
She sits on the edge of the bed, taking off her blazer and heels then throwing them off to random directions. With a heavy sigh, she gets up and walks over to the full body mirror nearby, cringing at her disheveled state. The investigation went horribly wrong. Failing at getting Starscream to tell the truth was the worst thing that happened today. It is quite expected, though, even if (Y/n) denies that tiny little feeling deep in her heart.
After cleaning what's left of her make-up and changing into more comfortable clothes, (Y/n) decides to check on her phone.
She realizes she hadn't used her phone the whole day, being busy with the investigation and all.
A surprised gasp leaves her lips upon getting the notification: ten miss calls from Jack. Guilt starts to engulf her for not giving him any news today. Her phone rings again, another incoming call from Jack.
"Hello?" She answers immediately. "Gosh, Jack, I'm so sorry for not answering your calls."
Silence. An uncomfortable one. (Y/n) raises an eyebrow in confusion, knowing that Jack would usually reply in an instant.
"It's okay." He answers after a long minute of silence, "How are you?"
"I'm fine, but things aren't...going really well." (Y/n) replies, noticing his sudden quietness. "How about you?"
"I..." She can hear Jack sighing heavily as if something is weighing him down.
"Jack?" (Y/n) calls out once more, worry rises in her heart. "Baby, are you okay?"
"I lost a patient today." He finally admits, almost whimpering. "He had a heart transplant, but—"
(Y/n) covers her mouth. She knows he is a hard working man, very dedicated to his job. This would've been very hard on him, and with her being here thousands of miles away, he had to endure it all alone.
"I'm—I'm so sorry." She whispers, trying not to choke on her own breath. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for—"
"He's ten, (Y/n)." Jack continues with his voice wavering. "He's goddamn ten. The heart was working, until he had a seizure, and I was too late to save him."
Then, she can hear him sobbing from the other side. Jack is crying, grieving, and (Y/n) isn't there to comfort him.
"It's not your fault." (Y/n) tries to reassure him, wiping the tears rolling down from her own eyes. "I'm sure you did your best, but God loves him more."
No reply comes from him, only the sounds of his silent crying and hers, weeping at one of their darkest days.
"Good night, (Y/n)." He says his final words for her that night before ending the call.
(Y/n) shuts her eyes tightly, muffling the sobs with her hand. She lets herself fall onto the bed, curling into a ball and spending the night with tears, regret, and grief.

She marches to the police precinct, hoping no one notices the swollen eyes she has covered with concealer. As she approaches the glass entrance door, a familiar person walks out from there with two officers as his escorts. Her teeth clenches together behind her pressed lipss, hands balling into tight fists upon seeing Starscream passing by her, his cold gaze meet hers for a split second. He is being driven away inside one of the patrol cars outside.. Angrily, (Y/n) barges inside, pushing through the crowds of officers and staff until she meets the door with Bumblebee's name on it.
"What's the meaning of this?" She seethes angrily, palms pressed on his table firmly as she bends down to look at him.
Bumblebee sighs lightly, putting down the document he's currently reading. "What?"
