No, it wasn't someone that you necessarily expected to see. You recognized them, but you couldn't quite place why they were so familiar to you. The only thing you knew for certain was that they were from the game. They obviously weren't a main character, otherwise you probably would have known exactly who they were as soon as you saw them. A support character maybe then?

She seemed to be looking for someone or something as she walked along the road with her flashlight turned on to dispel the gathering darkness. You had a choice to make; avoid her and continue on your own way, or reveal yourself and hopefully rejoin the game storyline?

On one hand it may be safer to stick by yourself and continue your search alone, but at the same time, you would have no clue where to start or how to find Cry. If you met up with some game characters you'd have a better understanding of what was happening and maybe Cry would have the same idea and you'd have a better chance of meeting up. In the end it was pretty iffy either way. However, talking all aspects into consideration, it sounded like it may be more beneficial to follow the game's storyline again.

And so, with your mind made up, you stepped out from your hiding spot and slowly made your way into the woman's line of sight. You held your hands up in the air to signify that you meant no harm. It would do you no good to appear hostile and get yourself shot. You had to make sure you played your cards right.

"Hello," you greeted loudly enough for the dark skinned woman to hear. "I mean you no harm. Are you friendly?" How fitting that your dialogue sounded like that of two strangers meeting in a multiplayer survival game.

"I'm friendly if you are," was her response. "What are you doing out here? Alone, too?"

You gave her a partial truth, "I've been separated from my group, so I've been travelling alone and searching for them. You seen any groups lately?"

"None but my own."

There was a pause. You took the time to study the woman more closely. She was fairly plump given the conditions of the world and had extremely curly, dark hair. She also had dark skin and gave you the impression that she didn't put up with any nonsense.

That's when it clicked who she was. This could either be good or really bad. It was probably leaning more towards bad, but if you were careful you may be able to sway it in a more favourable way. You'd have to watch yourself though, or or you could very well make things a whole lot worse.

"So, uh, your group... I used to know a guy around here... There wouldn't happen to be a guy named Carver in your group?" It took you a moment to remember the antagonist's first name. "Bill Carver?"

The woman shifted uncomfortably and looked you over again, as if reassessing you. "You knew Carver?" You nodded and she appeared to become even more uncomfortable. You briefly wondered why. "What's your name?"

"(Y/n)," you replied simply.

"Well, (Y/n), there's someone back at my camp that may want to meet you then. I'm Tavia. Come along." You nodded in confirmation and that was that. You had found your way into the storyline of the game. Now your main concern would be figuring out a way to survive being brought to Carver.

He obviously wouldn't remember you, seeing as he had never seen you before in his life. It would be risky to pretend to be a relative because the game hadn't really given you many details regarding Carver's personal life before the apocalypse. Would be buy it if you said you heard a passing traveller speak about his camp? Didn't seem very likely. Maybe just being vague and redirecting the conversation to a different topic to distract him might work. But you couldn't reveal that you knew as much as you did, or there was no telling what Carver would do to make you tell him your secrets.

If you weren't so focused on working out your own plan, you might have found it a bit odd how fidgety and tense Tavia was. Instead you brushed it off as her just having her guard up, ignoring how she got more and more nervous the closer you got to your destination.

By the time Carver's camp from the game was visible you had decided on being vague about knowing him and distracting him with pleas for shelter and saying you were willing to work. Upon seeing the building you did a double take. Something about it was... off. You couldn't put your finger on it, but you were positive that there was something different about the place. Maybe it was just because you were there before Clementine and her group had arrived? Yeah, that was probably it.

You still couldn't shake the uneasy feeling deep in your stomach.

Nevertheless, you steeled your resolve and continued on. Tavia's eyes kept darting around the landscape back to you. Did she think you were going to run for it? Attack? Or was it just you being paranoid? You honestly had no clue. This entire situation was dicey. It was far too late to back out now though, so you pushed on, determined to finish this. After all, this was was your best chance of finding Cry.

Tavia led you to the front gate of the area and after exchanging a few quick words with the guard you two were granted entry. You were then told to stay in a small area (which was very near to guards to further discourage you from moving) while Tavia went to go tell her higher-up that you were there to see Carver. While you were waiting, your bag and all of your weapons were taken from you. Precautions and all that.

You took the time to survey the area, hoping to put your mind at ease and reassure yourself that everything was fine. As long as you knew the game, you knew what was going to happen. You would be fine. That's all you had to keep reminding yourself as you concentrated on slowing your frantic heart.

"He wants to see you now." Tavia's comment brought you back to the situation at hand. "Follow me."

Nerves hit you fairly hard but you masked it with firm determination. You could do this. You had to do this. There was no telling what would happen if you screwed up. Well, you could at least assume that the outcome wouldn't be pleasant if Carver wasn't convinced by your façade. You were going to have to be careful.

The walk to Carver's little office area seemed to take no time at all, not giving you much more chance to prepare yourself. Soon enough, Tavia was knocking on the door and announcing your arrival. A muffled voice responded for her to let you in then leave the two of you alone. You paused upon hearing this. Wouldn't he have wanted someone else there to ensure his safety if you tried to attack or something? You'd have expected him to ask Tavia to wait outside at the very least.

Whatever, it wasn't really your business. Carver was probably just confident in his abilities to protect himself. Besides, he probably had some sort of weapon on him while you were defenceless. He definitely would have the upper hand in a fight. Good thing you didn't plan on attempting anything like that today, and especially not alone.

And so, you walked in feeling fairly sure of yourself. You knew what you had to do. You knew what to expect. You could do this, it would be fine.

It sure gave you a shock when you entered the room to find yourself facing a man who was assuredly not Carver.

Well shit.
