My dad got into basketball when he was younger - in high school to be exact. He worked hard and became point guard. Because of this, he earned his position as team captain. From there, he got a scholarship offer to go to Standford University to play. Of course, he took it without question. That is where he met my mom, Briana Rivers. He told me, as corny as it sounds; it was love at first sight - at least for him.
"Focus Andy," I told myself. "Let's see what I got." I look up and around hoping no one heard me talking to myself. It's eight-twenty. I have ten minutes to find... I look for my first class, homeroom. It is room 210. I start to walk down the hallway. On the left side I notice two doors which are at the end of the office and lead outside to, what I consider to be, the cafeteria building. Across it, to my right, are the same two doors which looks like they lead to the baseball field. As I continue walking forward, I pass the first two maroon classroom doors - the one on the right labeled 100 and the other, on the left, labeled 101. I keep walking farther down and see the number of the classrooms increasing.
As I am walking, I pass a bunch of students. Many of them look pretty young. I end up reaching the back exiting doors without any success of finding my class. Ugh. This probably means my homeroom class is on the second floor. I look to my left to find stairs. What a drag. Having no other option, I take the first steps and go up.
Once at the top, I see older looking students dispersed in hallway, so I assume I am in the right place. To my surprise, the maroon door directly in front of me is 210. That was easy. Yay for me! I did this all on my own. I should give myself a pat on the back.
In my old school, back in Cali, the school was huge. It had six buildings. Naomi and I got real lost on our first day of high school. We call it "our first day school adventure." We did not want to ask for help so we did it all on our own. We got late to all of our classes the first couple of days. Now, I’m having my own new school adventure, unfortunately, without her…
Bell rings.
Oh crap! I open the door fast and rush into the class. I see students spread out around the class room sitting, standing, talking. The teacher is just sitting at her desk taking things out, preparing for class. "Students take your seats so we can get started."
I walk to the closest empty seat; second chair, second row. To my right are windows, showing off another building outside, bigger then the cafiteria. The classroom's walls and student's desks, I notice, are the same beige as the hall. The doors of all the classrooms are dark beige. The classroom itself is not too big, yet not too small. There are a couple of extra seats around. The teacher sits at front behind her white desk with a white board behind her. She stands up and starts calling attendance. I look around as people call out "here" or "present."
Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, . . . "Andrea Rivers?" Well, that makes me sixteen. I call out "here."
The teacher continues calling names. I thought she was going to say something to me? Like introduce me to the class or at least say welcome. Oh well.
She finishes with the roll call soon after calling my name. There are twenty kids, including myself, in homeroom. "Well class as you all have perhaps noticed," oh okay, now she is going to say it, "we have a new student." She turns her attention to me only now. "Welcome Andrea to Mount Springs. I am Miss Weiss. In the morning, this will always be your first class. I take attendance and when the bell rings again, you go to your next period. While you are waiting for the bell, you may talk, do homework, or sleep, just as long as you stay in the classroom." She sits down and starts looking through some papers, so I suppose she is done talking.
