Chapter 5:

The next great memory came in a place I would never expect, school. And even more unexpected, during gym. I love sports, but gym is just... awful. It was a Wednesday so we were going to play knockout. Mallory, Olivia, and my other friends Katie and Melody, and I always play in noncompetitive so we don't die.

We all lined up with other kids in our class and began. I was in front of Mallory because she always insists that I will get her out if I am behind her, even though I suck at basketball. When it was my turn, I lined up my shot and then watched the ball aim towards the hoop. Thump. It bounced off the rim so I went to get it and shoot again while Mallory took her first shot.

Mallory missed and when we were both trying to shoot we kept trying to bit each other's ball away or block each other's shots. We were laughing so hard do our shots were horrible, even worse than usual. I finally got the ball in and then she did too. We returned to the back of the line lash bing about our failures and silliness. This is why Mallory and I were best friends. We could make something as horrible as gym into a funny memory. It may seem insignificant, but this was part of the last few moths we had, so every moment counted in our friendship.
