Chapter 11:
The small moments are some of the ones I will miss the most. The ones that put a smile on my face and brighten my mood. Just the little ones.
Like one time in English when we were talking about Twinkies. As we were talking. Mallory said, "What's a Twinkie?" causing everyone to dramatically react.
Or one time in gym when Mallory, Olivia, and I were talking to our coaches about Mallory and her sister. Our coach said that her sister was much shier than Mallory.
As we went to do our exercises, I said, "Yeah, Mallory is also more defensive."
"No I'm not!" Mallory exclaimed causing Olivia and I to erupt in a fit of giggles.
"Yes you are," Olivia replied.
"No I'm not!" Mallory said again, obviously not realizing the irony of the situation.
Or the one time in English when our teacher had just informed us of an essay we would be doing in class the next week. We all objected and she told us that she didn't want us to take them because she would have to grade all of them. We told her that we shouldn't have to write them.
"We should just write a story for homework tonight," someone suggested.
"Yeah!" we all agreed.
"Yeah we should write a two page story tonight for homework instead of the essay and then you will grade it!" someone said.
"What's going on?" Mallory asked because she had been writing something down so she was not aware of the negotiations occurring.
"We have to write a full story tonight for homework, Mal," I told her, "and it will be twenty points!"
"What?!" Mallory shouted.
"We're joking!" we all said.
"Wait for real?" Mallory asked still confused.
"Mallory there is no story we were joking," I explained to her.
"Oh," Mallory replied.
That was the Mallory I loved, defensive and gullible even if she doesn't admit it. Thinking about makes me think about how boring class would be without her. I guess I will find out next year when she's gone.
