She went to bed that night with her mind whirling. She had been kissed for the first time. She could still feel where his lips had met hers only a couple of hours ago. There was no way that she would be able to sleep thinking about everything Mason had told her, about how beautiful she was, how much he loved her, and how one day very soon, they would run away together. The while idea made her stomach sick and excited all at the same time.
Mason
The next Sunday at dinner Mason was anxious, he wanted to see Evelyn more, talk to her more, touch her more, but they only saw each other on Sundays where they're was no way any of that could happen. So when he walked in the front door of the Johnson's house his set his sights out for Evelyn, and when no one was watching he quietly walked up behind her and whispered in her ear.
"Meet me tonight in the top loft of your barn at midnight." And then he walked away, looked back at Evelyn for a second to wink at her.
Evelyn almost didn't understand everything Mason said, but was able to piece it all in her mind. Once again she felt her stomach cramp up with nerves. Why though? This was Mason why was she so nervous around him, she never used to be? Either way it wasn't going to stop her from meeting him that night.
After dinner Evelyn helped her mother and sister clean the kitchen, and then everyone went up to bed. She was laying in her bed, waiting, watching the pocket watch she had on the side table, and seemed like the seconds and minutes were taking there sweet time. Finally it was midnight, she quietly got out of bed, slipped on her jeans, pulled over a shirt, and tried to find some socks. She then as slowly as she could opened her bedroom door. She was relieved at the thought that Matthew, Rebecca, and Benjamin didn't live in the main house anymore, they had their own houses on the property that they had built once they had gotten married. As far as she could tell she had successfully gotten down the stair and went to the back door where her boots were, it was there that she slipped on her socks and slid her feet into her boots. She opened the back door hoping it wouldn't squeak, and when it did she froze, listening to see if she could hear any rustling in the house, but she heard nothing. Not opening the door any wider she slid her slender body through the small door opening and then closed the door, lightly releasing the handle so that it wouldn't click shut. When she had successfully closed the door she started running to the barn. She liked how the cool wind rushed across her face it was refreshing and she breathed it in, and felt the cold hit her lungs.
When she got to the barn, she climbed the latter to the top loft which where they store all if the hay. The second she saw Mason waiting there for her, she ran into his arms.
"Where have you been?" Mason asked, "I was scared you weren't coming."
"Sorry" Evelyn said, out of breath, "sneaking out of my house is hard."
"That's alright, I'm so you came." He said again holding her close to him.
"I'm so glad that your here too! Mason? Are we leaving tonight?" Evelyn asked, the realization just now coming to her.
"No, not tonight, I'm sorry love, please forgive me, I just wanted to see you." He said.
"Oh, no it's fine really, to be completely honest I'm not sure if I would be ready to go right now." Evelyn said a little relieved.
"Is it ok that I'm here?" Mason asked looking at her intensely.
"Of course it is" Evelyn said, "I wanted you to be here, and I was glad that you came."
"Good"
"Mason, why are you looking at me like that?" Evelyn asked. Mason drew her closer, leaned his head close to her ear and whispered.
