Chapter twenty

"Earth to Thalia!" Charleigh exclaimed from in front of me for what probably wasn't the first time.

I glanced up at her surprisedly, "What?"

"It's almost time to start and you've been standing here in the mirror straightening the imaginary wrinkles in your dress for the last five minutes. I even had to go get help in case you decided to go crazy," she explained exasperatedly.

I turned around to find my mother, my grandmother, Anna, a few of my other girl friends, Dante's mother, and both of his sisters.

How in the hell could I not have noticed all of these people in this small room?

It'd been six months since he proposed, and my wedding day had finally arrived. I was extremely excited to finally be able to call him my husband, but the wedding day jitters decided to hit me with the force of an eighteen wheeler five minutes before the ceremony was due to start.

"You brought all of my bridesmaids and some in here, why? I'm perfectly fine," I insisted, running my hands down the lace torso of my dress one more time for good measure.

"Egoní, you look like you're about to have a nervous breakdown," my grandmother said worriedly.

I sighed and clutched my hands tightly in front of me, "I am nervous, it's my wedding day, yaya."

"You aren't getting cold feet, are you?" Anna asked, sympathy shining in her brown eyes.

"No, not that at all. I just don't feel..complete in the way I look I guess," I admitted.

My hair was straightened and then curled in beautiful loose curls that trailed down my waist, and my makeup was done to perfection by a makeup artist Charleigh knew. I was absolutely in love with my dress, imported straight from Italy. It was simple but gorgeous in its simplicity, sleeveless, off-white and fitting snugly around my bust and waist before flaring out elegantly to my feet. I hadn't wanted to break the bank on a wedding dress, even though Dante insisted that I spend however much I wanted because he wanted me to be happy.

I kept looking at myself in the mirror, knowing that I looked stunning, but still feeling like something was missing.

"You do know that you could walk out there in a trash bag and he would still think you were the most beautiful thing walking right? My little brother practically worships you, bella," Luisa pointed out sincerely. "You look gorgeous. If I weren't already happily married and straight, I'd most definitely be after you."

I laughed nervously, "Thank you, Luisa. I'm just nervous, I've never been married before."

"Once you walk down that aisle and look into his eyes, I promise everything else will disappear. He loves you with every fiber of his being, trust me I know my son. I couldn't say that to the other trifling woman he originally intended to marry," his mother said soothingly.

I nodded and took a deep breath, feeling slightly calmed by her words. My grandmother walked over to me handed me a small necklace with a beautiful diamond pendant on it.

"Wear this, egoní. It has been passed down from generation to generation, even your mother wore it at her wedding. It is a 'good luck charm', as some people call it."
