Mom and Dad

Mom and Dad,

mother and father.

These phrases seem to mean the same thing- but to me they are different.

Everyone in the entire world has a mother and father, but by some horrible chance, not everyone has a Mom and Dad.

Your father helped conceive you,

Your Dad tucked you in at night.

Your mother gave birth to you,

Your Mom sang you a lullaby.

Your father may have had a baseball,

Your Dad taught you to play catch.

Your mother may have had beautiful hair,

Your Mom taught you how to brush it.

You father ate ice cream,

Your Dad shared his with you- and got it all over your face.

Your mother may have liked sun sets,

Your Mom made you stand in front of them to take cheesy pictures where your grin is too wide and your eyes are too squinted.

Perhaps these two are one in the same, but for many unlucky ones out there-

there is one,

but not the other.

So this is a poem I wrote. Thank you Mom, for singing me lullabies. Thank you Dad, for shoving your ice cream in my face. I owe you big time.
