Chapter 12

"Okay so, it's kinda hard for me to tell but I'll try my best." I say.

"That's all I'm asking for." Camila says.

"Well It's probably better to tell as a story."

Two years before...

I step off of the Pegasus that flew me to the Phaethon river to where I saw one of the most beautiful women I've ever saw. My beloved Amelia. I hadn't seen her since she joined the hunters of Artemis. I look at her and she looks distraught. I slowly walk up to her but as I do she takes multiple steps back.

"What is the matter with you, I haven't seen you in at least eight months and when I try to see you, you start to back away from me?" I question her.

"Artemis, she knows about us." Amelia says tears streaming down her tanned sun-kissed face. 

"Wait you mean the Goddess who says you can't lay with men knows about us, I don't see what the problem is." I say.

"She says I have to redeem myself by killing you." Amelia says now full on crying.

"Wait but I'm not a guy." I say.

"She says for me to reach my full potential I have to betray and kill the one thing I love and that's you Lauren." Says the daughter of Hephaestus.

"Wait you love me?" I question and she nods starting to walk closer to me.

"And I'm sorry about this." She says raising her bow reaching out for an arrow out of her quiver.

"It's ok. I know it has to be done. Kill me as I no longer want to live without you near me." I say.

"Do you love me?" She asks.

"Amelia." I say but she's quick to respond.

"Answer me Lauren, do you love me?" She questions me harshly. 

"Yes, but you have to do it. Kill me so you won't be. I love you." I say as she releases the arrow from her grasp. Before it hit me I could see Amelia fall to her knees bleeding. An arrow sticking through her chest.

"You must fight for what you love, if that means a women then you should defend her not kill her." I see Artemis stepping out from behind the body of my now dead girlfriend. The arrow hits me right above the hipbone and I feel the sharpest pain coursing through my body.

"Please, Help." I struggle to release but Artemis rushes to my aid.

"I'm sorry child for letting her do this but it was a test. I can see now she was not right for you and that you truly didn't love her as you would of looked for her after these months. I will help you on one condition. Find the one you love and protect her at all costs. That is my price." Artemis bargins and I nod not wanting to die.

"Yes I will but please help." I say.

"It is already done." She says pulling out the arrow. I look down there was no wound but only a circular scar right above my hipbone.

Present time....

"After that I flew back to camp and lived in a cave on half-blood hill until I came out again to train somewhere different. I never really loved Amelia, I can see that now but I do truly love you Camila and I want you to see that. I know that you may need time to accept that but I'm willing to wait considering we have eternity." I say and Camz looks at me.

"So Artemis spared you?" She questions and I nod.
