You choose to be friendly and carry on the conversation. "Thanks," you say., "I actually got it from my hometown shortly before moving here. I'm Addie by the way," you say with a smile.
"Cool, I'm Kat, and these two are Jamie and Rose," Kat tells you, returning your smile. "Where are you from?"
"Texas."
"Oh wow, what brought you here?"
"My dad got a promotion that he couldn't deny," you explain, thinking about your old friends and neighbors.
"Oh, well," Kat pauses. "You're welcome to hang out with us," you smile as she rubs your shoulder.
"Thanks."
You struggle through your first classes of the day and you are relieved to see Kat and her friends sitting at a lunch table, a spot saved for you. "Oh my goodness, I am so excited for your party tonight," an unfamiliar person says to Kat as you sit down. "Um, who are you?"
"This here, my fellow squad, is Addie, she moved here from Texas," Kat says for you.
"Ah," the girl says, not impressed at all.
"So," Kat says quickly, changing the subject. "Are you coming to my party tonight?"
"Huh," you say.
"My party. It's a back to school party. On the beach like, right over there." You have an uninterested look on your face, "oh come on. It'll be fun!"
"Yeah," the unfamiliar, but rude girl says to you. "There'll be beer and guys, shirtless, might I add. Or, you know, you could be a good little country girl and stay home with your mommy and daddy," she taunts you.
You sigh, "I'll think about it." You don't want to get in trouble by your parents, it is a school night after all. But, you also want to prove this new girl wrong. You get up at the sound of the bell and finish your day.
