This Chapter Has Suggestive Themes.

I lay in bed feeling the simple pleasures of being by myself for the morning. I'd had a dream about Tom and his face just would not leave my head. The images were uncharacteristic, and completely wrong for him, but so right. I found myself being attracted to the younger boy.

Usually, I am a good girl and didn't like being too selfish, but as a 17 year old girl, I have needs and I thought what people don't know wouldn't hurt them. So I lay there biting my lip with my eyes screwn shut as I felt my entire body cramp up and go stiff.

I am embarrassed as I get up and pad to the showers, even though no one is around. Where are they? And then I remember as my mind snaps on alert. Today is Monday-they'd all be in class! I zoom through my shower and throw fresh clothes on, grabbing my book bag and wand, shoving it into my pocket and storming out of Gryfindor Tower towards History of Magic.

When I finish winding the halls and getting yelled at by portraits and ghosts, I stand at the tall wooden doors, gasping for breath while bent over. I take several deep breaths and quietly slip into the classroom with the professor's back is turned. He is going on about some kind of rumor about a Queen in an enchanted forest with a curse on her step daughter. I believe I heard the name Snow White, but that would make him uncredited, wouldn't it? But then again-we live in a world of magic.

I sit beside a girl in the back with curly strawberry blonde hair and focused green eyes. Her skin is super pale and she has freckles dotted around her skin. That doesn't stop her from looking sickly. She barely spares me a glance, eyes shifting to me when I sit beside her, and snap back to the front of the room. I don't bother to get out my parchment to take notes. The class is nearly over with anyhow.

"So, this Enchanted Forest had many of...what are called 'Fairy Tales' living inside of it, as I've explained. We are going to have a bit of fun this week, I think. I want each of you to do your own research proving or disproving that these rumors are true. Pick a prince, princess, or story and make an argumentative essay. Pay particular attention to the witches and wizards in each tale. I also want you to give your own conspiracy theories about what happened to them and state your opinion clearly whether you think it's hogwash or not. Due this Friday at the beginning of the hour. You are dismissed."

I jump up and am first out of the room before the professor can pin point me. Unfortunately, the girl I sat with is right behind me and grasps my elbow in a bruising grip right outside the door. Her eyes startle me because they are a milky color. The green is washed out and empty. Her pale hand on my arm is beginning to hurt so I try to wring free, but it doesn't work.

"Come with me," she says mystically. "I need your help."

"With what? Let go of me," I hiss.

"Can't say. He told me to find help."

"Who is 'he'," I question as I am escorted unwillingly.

"Can't say," she says again and then says nothing else. She guides me outside and down the path leading to the the forbidden forest. My heart beat starts to pick up, fully processing the danger of the situation now. This morning is not going well.

"What am I helping you with," I stutter. She doesn't answer me but tugs me into the shade of the trees. Her pace picks up, forcing me into a light jog so that she wasn't dragging me.

Even though it is nearly nine in the morning, the darkness make it seem like it is after dusk. The girl stops suddenly, causing me to run into her with air exhaling harshly out of my lungs. The girl pitches forward but catches herself pretty quickly.

"Shh," she hisses. Everything is eerily quiet. No sounds are being made from the birds in the trees and no animals ruffle through the leaves. The quiet presses in on my ears as if they need to be popped. "He's here," she whispers.

A hooded figure emerges from the blackest trees, walking towards us slowly. Cold eyes fall onto me and stay there a moment, sending chills up my spine. I feel the heat of anger flash in the person's eyes before the gaze is turned on the girl.

"You brought the wrong girl," the voice from the hood is low and angry. "I can't use her."

"I...I'm sorry m-my Lord," the girl stammers, suddenly trembling so hard she falls to the ground. Her Slytherin robes pool around her.

"I guess I'll have to find the second girl myself," he hisses.

"Tom," I ask, recognizing his voice. His jaw snaps tight and he takes a startled step backwards. It is clear he was trying to disguise his voice. "Tom what is this?"

"I seek immortality, Mira," he says, decidedly speaking as if my knowing who he is, is of no importance to him. "On second thought," he says thoughtfully. "I really don't want two murders on the school grounds just yet. Not while it can be traced back to me. Why haven't I thought of this before? Kira, I'm finished with you. Remember nothing."

The strawberry blonde girl gets to her feet and takes off towards the castle. Tom shoves down his hood and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Waste of time and effort," he grumbles. He takes a moment to berate himself before turning his attention back on me.

I stand rigid before him. Somehow I know he can not hurt me, but I'm still afraid. My breath catches in my throat. "Mira...I've tried to speak with Lestat...I've tried to speak with Louis, I've tried several vampires and none will speak with me. I've found an alternative... Consuming unicorn blood would keep me alive after death if only just, but I'd really like to keep it as a last resort. There's a terrible price to pay for killing a unicorn, as I'm sure you well know. "

"What's your point? What are you planning?"

"Are you afraid of me, Mira?"

"...yes," I admit. He steps closer to me and I shudder away.

"Good...rightfully so."

"What do you want from me?"

"I want to use you as a bargaining chip. Lestat or Louis changes me, or I kill you in the process of making...another precaution for cheating death."

"They'll kill you first, Tom Riddle."

"They can't get in the school," he says smartly. "So, you're at MY mercy. You'll do what I say, or you'll die. You tell anyone about this, and youll die. As well as whoever you told. They're blood will be on YOUR hands."

"Tom..."

"Come with me now back up to the school like nothing happened. Wipe that look off your face."
