Tom Riddle made sure not to look at the beast when he heard the scales scrape and slide against the stone statue. Looking into a Basilisks eyes directly was a sure cause of death. If you were lucky, you would only catch a glimpse of its eyes in a reflection and become paralyzed. Tom knew the cure, but it wouldn't do him any good to know the cure if he was paralyzed down here in the Chamber.

"The heir of Slytherin?" The giant snake replies with a throaty laugh. How did a snake sound throaty? "What makes you think I wont eat you anyway...Heir of Slytherin?"

"Because you are a loyal creature and you will know your place. Or die."

The Basilisk was fully out of the gaping mouth of Salazar Slytherin and sat coiled mere feet from the teenager. It was at least 50 feet long and thicker than a tree trunk. It's fangs were long and sharp, meant to intimidate and kill, yet Tom's shoulders were squared and he was confident. In reply to Tom's answer, the snake laughed, amused and impressed.

"You? A little mouse like you thinks you can kill me?"

"Believe me, Basilisk, I am no mouse. " Tom drew his wand and before the Snake would realize what was happening, he pointed it directly at its nose. "Crucio!"

The sound that came from the great monster was inhuman and yet still far from animal. It was primal, and full of such pain that you'd think a dull axe was being used on the snakes body. The landing Tom stood on shook, and he briefly wondered if anyone in the castle could hear the atrocious screams of the Basilisk.

He cut the spell off and stowed his wand as the Basilisk slumped to the ground, once again causing the Chamber to quake.

"What do you require of me, master?"

Tom smirks to himself. So it seemed even a mighty beast such as this one could be influenced to come to his aid. This would be a tactic he would use often when recruiting followers.

"I am sick of the mudbloods in the wizarding world...they are...unworthy of our magic. I shall utilize your abilities to purge this school first and foremost of those thieves."

The Basilisk lowered it's head in acceptance and Tom felt himself swell with pride. He commanded one of the deadliest beasts in the world, a beast even Newt Scamander had wanted to stay away from, and he was only 16 years old. The sheer, raw power he already possessed would be nothing to what he would taste in the future. Of that he was sure of, and if Tom Marvolo Riddle would get excited over anything, it would be that.

The Basilisk followed behind Tom menacingly as Tom led the way back towards the girls' bathroom, and slithered it's way up the pipe after the boy levitated himself upwards.

"Whose there?" Cried a high pitched voice that cracked horribly. Tom stiffened his shoulders and peered around the corner where the stalls were. He met eyes with a small impish girl with messy black hair pulled to each side in what was meant to be cute pigtales. "This is the girls' lavatory," she huffed and barreled toward him.

"Kill," Tom instructed the gigantic snake.

Myrtle came to a halt right in front of Tom, and her watery blue eyes trailed from him to the sink. "Are you the one who made this hole?" She then let out a scream before he could answer her, when she caught the sight of gleaming black and Dark green scales, and huge yellow glowing eyes.

Her skin went papery with a tinge of grey, and her wide, terrified eyes lost their light slowly. Her body crumpled to the floor clumsily and the crack of her skull on the stone floor echoed throughout the bathroom.
