Day 2
I don't remember the first time I actually met Melanie. The earliest memory I have with her is when we were both dancing on her terrace to Backstreet Boys when we were in the second grade. Throughout middle school and elementary school, we always had a sleepover every single weekend. High school created a new level of chaos in our lives and also with the extra training in order to properly be prepared for taking over our various companies.
She kept secrets, she always gave you her special Oreo milkshakes when you're down, and she always took your mind away from the world's problems.
Melanie was every girl's dream best friend.
Except for her temper. When you anger her, she's like a fuse to a bomb. So when she picked up the phone instead of my level-headed friend, Elliot, I knew I was in deep shit.
Currently, Melanie was saying so many different phrases in Spanish, she was most likely cursing me to the deepest depths of hell.
"Que te folle un pez!" She screams and then ends her Spanish fit. I definitely knew what that one means. She hopes that I get fucked by a fish.
"Isabella, where the hell are you? Are you okay? This so not like you Isabella, we know you're not in Canada. I'm-"She lets out a scream of frustration before only her heavy breaths are the only thing I could hear.
I take this as my go-signal and try to get in a few words before she begins ranting again.
"Melanie, I-I don't even know where to begin."I sigh.
How do I even explain this story? I had a feeling that Nico didn't want me blabbing everything about it him. What he did was illegal and I know that Melanie and Carter would gladly make sure that I sue his ass.
Elliot...is more understanding.
"There's this guy...he's interesting. I made some promises that I have to keep, and honestly Mel, I relate to this guy a lot. After three weeks, this whole shenanigan will be over. I'll promise I'll tell you the whole story when I see you again because it honestly is something that you have to do in person."I explain.
Actually, this story is something that I can tell to Melanie only in person, she would probably be more open to all of my decisions over a pint of Häagen-Dazs.
Melanie is silent for a good minute or two and I pray that she isn't secretly telling Carter about all of this because I'm not ready to explain myself for the second time.
"A guy did all of this? I don't understand why you're not bolting your ass to the nearest police station. This guy is obviously trouble, something that you don't deal with well."She chastises and I sigh.
It was going to take a lot for Melanie to understand this and why I chose to agree to this.
When he was telling his story he seemed like he wanted to escape all of his troubles, not forever but just for the time being, his life simply became too much to handle. I understood that more clearly than he could even think.
Unconsciously, a smile grew on my face while giddiness filled me. I felt happy that there was someone I could actually relate too, someone who had the same problems I had, someone who understood.
"I understand him so much, I mean it's crazy but I feel like I can trust him. I know I just met him, but Mel...I can't even put it into words."I tell her and Melanie draws a long sigh.
"Is he cute?"She asks quietly and I laugh so hard that my cheeks begin to hurt.
This is one of the many reasons why I loved Melanie...she may act like a mother at times but there's no doubt that she's my sister.
