“‘A summer’s evening doesn’t come without the cold weather of winter’.”

A knocking came from the door of my small room filled by one bed, a desk and chair. Just waking up from a silent dream, I walked up to the door to be greeted by a tall male. “Good to see you awake, Miss Mavis~” His smile was almost to happy.

“Good morning, Brock. I believe that before work starts, I must change. Also, isn’t it forbidden for you to come to the female servants’ corridor?” He chuckled in a low voice.

“Well, it is true, but I just had to see the love of my life once more!” Brock knelt down on the ground as he ‘proposed’ his love to me.

Taking hold of his hair, I kicked the man in the knee and left him on the ground outside my room. “Good riddance to you, Brock.” I walked to my desk, picking up a neatly folded dress and apron. After changing into the simple black and white outfit, I exited my room, avoiding the man fallen down in the corridor hallway.

“I agree, father.” Son of king Cilan, Prince Andrew spoke to his father about some sort of political agreement.

As I walked past the two they seemed to stay silent. Feeling the strange eyes of others in the palace was normal, but nobles made things worse. “Miss. Please remember that your job is to clean, not to stalk royalty.”

“Father, she seems to have not known about our conversation. It was just a mistake that anyone could have done.” King Cilan looks to me with boring eyes.

Curtsying to his majesty, I speak to him with the utmost respect. “My apologies your majesty, King Cilan. It was a mistake that is to cease to exist in all the days of the future.”

Keeping my head down until king Cilan past me by I heard the young prince’s voice. “He is gone. You can pick up your head now.”

I looked up to the green haired prince with Glowing Emerald eyes. “Thank you, prince Andrew.”

He looked at me with curiosity. “Are you new around here?” Taken aback by his honest idiocy. I stay silent. “I take it you’ve been her a while, now.” As an awkward silence takes over the room, he starts small talk. “What is your name?”

Hesitant to speak, I say my name. “My name is Mavis.”

   “Any last name?”

“None. I don’t even know if Mavis is my real name.”

With anger in his voice, prince Andrew yelled out at me. “How can you not know your own name?! How are you even a maid in this casle if you cannot be trusted!!”

Falling backwards, onto the hardwood floor. My deep sea blue eyes quivered as I teared up in fear from the second prince of Sapphire, prince Andrew Sapphire.

“Maybe I can give you a new job. Leave!” Getting up, I start out to my room.

“You may not trust me, but I have to trust you. Why is that?” I keep going well prince Andrew thinks about my words.

“Why is that?” He stops me to understand my earlier statement.

Turning around, I smirk. “You are a prince of Sapphire, and a descendant of our first king, king Aaron Sapphire.” Pausing to think about my next words, I continue. “You are of a noble family line, while I don’t have a family. I must trust you, even though you have only been handed things for the entirety of your life.”

Boring into his emerald eyes, he is filled with anger. “I have not been just ‘been handed things’ all my life!”

“Hardships for you involve politics, clothes and King Cilan. While I have had to work my butt off since childhood!” His indifferent expression of anger keeps me going. “Life for love is something that should be earned! You have only earned this earful of words from a girl trapped by this kingdom’s hero!!” I storm off, leaving the prince starstruck.

Walking back to the female servants’ corridor, I see an empty hallway in front of my room. “Looks like Brock went back to work. Finally.” Coming out again in about a minute, I carry one picture.

“What are you doing? Isn’t that the picture you came with as a child?”

“Ahh!” I hit a tall boy with black hair in the stomach. “Ash!! Don't scare me.” Falling down to the floor, he groaned at me. “What was that?”

   “Are you running….ugh, away?”

“No… That stupid prince Andrew doesn’t trust me because I have no memory of my real or last name. He is trying to fire me, so I’m leaving.”

“You can’t! Only the king, Cilan, is able to fire you.”

“Fine. I’ll stay.” Ash threw his fist in the air as if it was a victory to keep me here, in the castle. “Only because I have nowhere to go and have to repay my hero, the kingdom of Sapphire, for saving me from this dreaded war that has taken many.”

   “Well--”

   “Ashton!! Come here, darling.”

“I-I have to go, Mavis. Mom’s calling me. As a, horrible, nobleman, I must take my leave.” He bent down and kissed my hand. “See ya later, Mavis the maid.”

“Don’t let your mother know you were here.” Childishly smirking, Ash runs off without any other servant or nobleman in the castle seeing him.
