Niall was wrong about the rest of the week as well. His mood didn't change whatsoever. Having Harry by his side day in and day out was like a drug. He sucked the sadness right out of him, he averted his thoughts from horrible things and kept him in an everlasting bliss.
Things didn't change either, weeks flew by and Harry stayed. It was strange to have someone actually like him. Of course he knows the rest of the lads are his friends but sometimes he feels like they are obliged to be there, he doesn't feel like they really want to be around him. But Harry, Harry is different. Harry makes him feel whole. He makes him feel like he's loved, like he can trust him. He makes everything brighter.
It was different to have everything switched around so suddenly, from shallow loneliness to clingy friendship. Niall never thought for a second Harry knew what kind of affect he had extastentionally on his life. But Harry knew, maybe not exactly but deep down he knew he was affecting Niall's life. He was just glad it could be him doing it.
Because of Harry Niall's terrifying nightmares came to a halt, his nights were filled with dreamless sleep. His face wasn't so pale and sunken and his eyes weren't bruised with the blue bags underneath. Niall actually smiled now. It was strange at first the feeling of the muscles in his face working into a smile instead of working his eyes to cry.
Since the first week Harry started being his real friend, Niall hadn't touched his razors. Although his head still swam with unhealthy thoughts and ideas he was getting better or at least he saw this as progress. He still didn't eat though, around meal times he'd disappear leave Harry alone somewhere until it was well past eating hours then come back. Harry never pushed him for answers, he was grateful.
Liam, Zayn and Louis all understand the kindling friendship unravelling under their noses. They'd smile when they saw Harry playing with Niall's hand, or share a relieved look when they heard Niall's echoing laugh filling the room.
One night when Harry had gone to bed early Niall stayed up with Liam in his room. It felt weird and awkward and he was maybe a little uncomfortable but it was Liam and he was his best friend. Liam didn't seem fazed at all by how close they sat or the uncomfortable silence between.
"It's been a while since we hung out, huh Niall?" Asked Liam, his eyes transfixed on the television. A small smile was playing on his lips and Niall couldn't help smile too.
"It seems so, we've been busy haven't we?" He said stretching his legs out in front of him.
"Yes we have," Liam answered turning towards him on the bed. He gazed down at Niall with a glint in his eye and a smile on his lips. "I've missed you mate. We should do something together soon, go to the pub or whatever. Anything you want."
"T-that sounds good, Liam. We should do that," he answered cooly with a large smile on his face.
Liam looked back up at the tv, a curious thought flickering in his mind.
"Hey, Ni, can I ask you something?" Niall looked up at him expectantly, nodding thoroughly waiting for him to continue. "I may be wrong, very wrong, but do you like someone?" Niall could tell Liam was trying not to smile.
He bit his lip nervously, thinking if maybe he should tell him. "Why do you ask?"
Liam jumped up in his seat, spinning towards Niall as he crossed his legs and looked at him excitedly. "Its Harry isn't it?! I knew it! You guys are so cute!" He squealed looking down at Niall enthusiastically.
"I-I how did you-?"
"Know that? Well it's sort of obvious, me and Lou have been kind of gossiping about you two. You're always together, not that its a bad thing, and you always cling to each other not like you do with me or Zayn so we put two and two together."
