"John, are you sure you're ready to do this?" Paul asked him as they were walking towards Stu's house for practice. John just nodded. John hadn't really been talking much in the last three weeks since his mom had passed. It was hard for him to form the right words, but Paul understood. He never pushed john or got discouraged or short-tempered with him. Sometimes when they hung out, they only spoke about 7 words. They would sit in silence. Listening to records and playing guitar occasionally.
"I think it's time," John said, and the sound of his own voice surprised him. He hadn't spoken in so long, it was like a totally new experience. Thus far, he had pushed away everyone except Paul and Mimi. He hadn't seen anyone else since the funeral. The boy's often called to check in, but Mimi would respect John's wishes and say he wasn't up for talking at the moment.
When John walked in, everyone just stared. They hadn't seen him in so long. A few mustered "I'm sorry" but that was it. Paul had told them that it was terrible to have that feeling of pity and helplessness, so aside from that, they treated him as normal old Johnny.
"Let's rock and roll!" John yelled, and a few whoops rang out among the band mates. John surprised himself again, he was genuinely happier than he had been in the last three weeks.
They began to play, and john forgot about the sorrow for a bit. But when they weren't playing, the sadness rested deep in his chest. The boy's suggested getting a few drinks after practice, and John agreed. They all stopped by the cavern and got really drunk. John even wandered onstage and began to slur song lyrics into the microphone while stumbling around. The boy's all clapped for him and laughed.
When the night was over, Paul decided to walk with john and make sure he got home alright.
"I wanted to say thank you, but I could never find the right words. I've really needed you over the past few weeks, and you've been there for me. You're my best friend!" John yelled at the end, making Paul laugh. Paul smiled all the way home knowing that he had really helped someone that needed saving, and even though John would never admit it sober, John had truly needed him.

Wow, 15 chapters!!! That's a lot (for me.) I usually give up by now, but I will finish this book if it's the last thing I do! And I'm glad I don't need to write any more sad chapters because that broke my heart honestly.
