One To RememberChapter one: Friends Before Feelings
"No guys please don't do this!" I beg, but it's too late as Brady's sponge hits the target and I'm dropped into the tank full of ice cold water. I feel like I'm swimming in freakin Antarctica, it's that cold. I am soo going to get him back for this, feelings aside, he will pay.
I pop up to the surface and clutch onto the ladder with shaking hands and slowly pull myself up. I try and muster up a convincing glare but it disappears when I see him laughing and throwing another sponge around in his hand. Katie and Chelsea are also laughing behind him. What amazing friends I have. I don't know where Quinn is, he's probably wandered off looking for some girls to flirt with knowing him.
I sit back onto the ledge and try and soak up as much sun as I can before I get dunked again. I can't believe they talked me into doing this. We're only here because Brady's little sisters Bree and Emma wanted to go to their school gala and Brady's parents are both busy working on their farm so they couldn't take them. So when Brady called me asking if I wanted to come I originally said no because I had my favourite program to catch up on, but when he said Katie and Chelsea were coming too, I gave in. Later finding out that they actually hadn't agreed to come until they knew I was.
He tosses it once more in the air before it flies towards the target. I brace myself before being plunged in once more. I bite back a scream, shit it's cold! I climb back up the ladder and sit on the ledge and cross my arms. I put on my best angry face and Brady walks up to the tank and stands there looking at me.
"You a little cold there?" He smirks. Oh so he thinks it's funny huh? I slip my foot into the water and bring it up so it splashes all over him. The look on his face is priceless.
"You think it's so funny, why don't you have a go huh? And I'll do the honour of dunking you." I challenge him.
"You're on, Benson."
I watch him climb up and sit down on the ledge, ooooh this is going to be fun!
"Aim the sponge straight." He winks at me.
I smirk, "who said I'm throwing a sponge?"
His eyes go wide as I push the target with my hands. He falls in and bounces back up to the surface within seconds. His eyes sparkle as water droplets cling to his eyelashes. I let myself admire him before focusing on the matter at hand. Keeping a straight face I walk backwards towards Katie and Chelsea who are squealing with excitement.
"You look a little cold Daniels." I wink. Then turn around to face them and a smile spreads across my face.
When I walk in the door after Brady dropped me off, I'm in a daze. That was so much fun! When one of the teachers asked us to fill in in for her at the dunker, I thought my life was over when they offered me. But in the end it was worth it.
I pour myself a glass of juice before taking my book and relaxing outside in the hammock. Im fully engrossed in John Greens novel, The Fault In Our Stars that I don't even notice the ginger cat that had crept up beside me and was sprawled across our lawn. Then, being me, I nearly fall out, and quite possible nearly die by the way. Then I look to the side and there it is. It's big green eyes staring me down like I'm the next mouse he wants to eat.
I put my book down and slowly start crawling to where it's lying down. Then before I know it Im brushing through its fluffy fur not caring that it isn't my cat and hearing him softly purr.
- And i know it was a boy cat because he had boy parts. Just sayin.
Becoming quite fond of him I go back inside and get him something that I know he'd like; some leftover mince from the night before. My old cat Whiskers used to love leftovers, that is before she died of old age.
