Chapter two: Like The Girl Version Of Forrest GumpI wake to the sound of scratching on glass. It's like a stab to the ears. I hate that sound. But where the hell is it coming from?!
I groggily sit up and rub my eyes from sleep and look towards my window. Oh Lord.
I know I fed him, but waking me up to a sound like that is just not on. I look at my clock. Ugh it's only just past six o'clock. A girl needs more sleep than this.
Well, he obviously wants me to let him in so I push off the covers and slowly get out of bed. I stand there for a bit just stretching and yawning before going to the window and opening it. Fussy dawdles in and makes himself at home in 'his' basket.
Okay so he wakes me up from my precious sleep to then be let in just to fall asleep again.
How rude.
I sigh, I guess I'm up now, I might as well do something. So I tip toe down stairs knowing that I'm the only one awake at this unholy hour, and make my way to the kitchen. I look in the fridge for anything appetising, but I'm actually not that hungry right now. So instead I get out the dog food and put it on the bench before heading outside to get their dishes.
The air is crisp and cold as I walk outside to the dog pens. I try and wrap my pyjama top around me more but it won't stretch.
I open the latch with shaky hands and step inside closing it behind me. Vixy jumps up on me and flicks her tongue everywhere while Rover and Daisy are standing there wagging their tails like mad.
Incase you're wondering, Vixy is a purebred husky with dazzling multicoloured eyes, Daisy is a black and white Maltese cross shiatsu and Rover is a chocolate lab. They're all very different in size and shape, but I love them to bits all the same.
Once I've grabbed all their bowls I dash back inside and fill their bowls with dog meat stuff - I don't know what it is - before heading back outside.
There's no way I'm gonna be able to open the latch with my hands full so I put them on the ground.
My hands now free I decide I can let the dogs out, it's about time they run around and get some exercise anyway.
As soon as I swing open the door they zoom out. Then Rover heads in the direction of the vegetable garden.
O oh.
Maybe letting them out this early was a bad idea. But they should know by now that the vege garden is off limits, Mum made sure of that. With her prize winning pumpkins, she made that area out of bounds, even for me.
Ugh, I jog around the side of the house to where the vege garden is. All the veggies look untouched. Even the strawberry patch, that I know Rover loves, is still there.
Crap. Where is he then?
I turn around looking in every possible direction he could have gone in. And paying close attention to the sounds I hear. Now that I've lost track of where Vixy and Daisy are, my eyes are on the hunt.
I walk in the direction of the stables, maybe he's there trying to spook the horses. I look inside the stable and brush my hand over Steams mane. Steam is my horse that we got when I was nine and there's also Tinker, Bonne's horse, Bongo, Adam's horse and Lacy. Lacy was Lilly's horse before she died, so Mum and Dad ride her when we go for a family horse ride down the creek behind our house.
I regularly groom Steam, he's a warm brown with white patches all over his body. I love him so much. Quite often I take him out for a ride just to get away from things and out in the fresh air. It's what me and Lilly used to do together so it's almost like she's there with me.
