Chapter seven: Mud Puddles And First Crushes
"So Brady, what are you plans for when you leave school?" I face palm, of course dad would ask that. I'm starting to re think inviting him to stay for dinner.
"I think I'll go to college for a few years and study business. After that I want to start up my own business, though I'm not sure what in yet."
If my eyes could turn into cute little hearts, they would right about now. I didn't know he wanted to own his own business when he leaves school! That is so awesome.
Can I like hug him right now?
"Well that's very good of you, " dad leans over the table towards me and loudly whispers, "see Sharl, this is the kind of boy that you should date."
Oh.
My.
God.
He did not just say that. Why dad why?
All sorts of emotions course through me, but I'm mostly feeling embarrassed. I mean Brady and the whole family could hear what he said!
"I'm just going to go to the bathroom."
I half walk half jog up the stairs and then lock the door to the bathroom behind me. I sit down on the baths edge and rest my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands. This is all going terrible! I knew it was a bad idea. And here I was thinking that Bonne or Adam would say something embarrassing, not dad! Omg and now I've made an even bigger fool of myself leaving and hiding in the bathroom.
Just great.
I walk back into the dinning room and Brady, Adam and my dad are deep in conversation. No doubt talking about the rugby or something.
I sit back down, "what'd I miss?"
My mum smiles, "not much honey, the boys are just talking about motorbikes and car parts." She gets up and starts picking up all the plates, Bonne gets up too and puts her plate in the dishwasher before leaving.
"Desert will be ready in twenty." Mum calls.
Ooooh yumm! I wonder what she's cooked this time. Every Sunday night we have sorta like a family tradition, dad cooks something for dinner, and mum makes something she's never made before, for desert. Last week she made blueberry and creme tarts. They we're lick-your-fingers-deeelicious.
Dad gets up too, "well I've got some paper work to finish off before tomorrow, I'll be back in twenty." And with that he gives mum a quick kiss and heads up stairs.
Adam stands up and scratches behind his neck, "yeah, ah I got some home work to finish." And then he also leaves the room.
That's weird, Adam homework? I smell something fishy going on here.
Mum speaks up before I can ask anything.
"You two go for a walk or something, just be back in time for desert!" She says very cheerfully.
Hmmmm......
"Okay then, thanks Mrs Benson for dinner."
Mum chuckles, "it was the Mr who made it but thank you anyway. Now you two shoo! Get out of here while I clean up."
