Alec's POV

Getting out of the drivers' side of my car, I took a deep breath in as the hot California air hit me. Goosebumps ran across my arms with the harsh temperature change from the air conditioned car to the outside heat. It was still August, so the sun remained to shine bright, exposing Los Angeles to its heat. Although I would miss summer, I was ready for Fall, to start the new school year.

Izzy and Jace got out of the car, both slamming their doors shut in unison. I winced a little, hearing the noise. "Can you not slam the doors, please?!"

Both looked at me, giving me an apologetic look. I rolled my eyes as I grabbed my backpack from the back seat. "Sorry, Alec!" Izzy yelled in reply.

I began to walk away, hearing whispered laughter behind me. My knuckles turned white as I attempted to not yell back at them from across the crowded parking lot. I hate my siblings sometimes.

As I looked toward the main entrance, security guards were blocking men with cameras. The cameramen were all yelling profanities at the security guards, but they continued to push. Students gathered around the scene, wondering why there were was such a commotion. I didn't want to stop and stare, figuring that I would hear about it from Jace or Izzy later

With the heat continuing to blow through the wind, I quickly made my way up the backstairs to escape the sun. As I made my way towards home room, I was stopped by my principal, Ms. Penthallow.

"Hello, Alec. Would you please follow me to my office?" She said, turning around and walking down the hallway before I could reply. I took a deep breath in, as I continued to follow her down the hallway and into her office. To say that I was nervous would be an understatement. I bit the inside of my cheek as I sat down in a seat across from her desk. I barely walked onto campus and I was already in trouble.

"Alec, I hope that you enjoyed your summer," she said looking at me with a smile. I nodded my head in reply.

"Don't worry. You are not in trouble," she said with a chuckle. I figured that she noticed my nervousness. "Being that you are a model student and at the top of your class, I wanted to ask you if you would be a student tour guide for the day. For our newest student."

"Of course. Um, I can do that," I said, taking a pause. "What exactly do I need to do?"

Ms. Penthallow proceeded to turn around to grab a vanilla folder from a stack of books across the room. She quickly handed it to me and made her way back across her desk to take a seat.

"Inside you will find the student's class schedule and his locker and combination. All I need for you to do is show him around campus, show him where his classes are, and make sure that he settles in. Maybe, you could ask him about what he is interested in, like clubs or sports. I would also like you to impress him with the school as much as you can. His father is a very important donator to the school, so I would only like him to have good things to say about the school to his father," she said.

"I'll try my best," I responded with a nervous smile. I was surprised that Ms. Penthallow would make such a big deal of impressing the new student. His father must be giving the school a lot of money.

As I left the room, I couldn't help but feel anxious. I have never given a new student a tour before, let alone give anyone a tour of the school. I didn't want to mess up, or make the new student feel miserable on their first day of school.

Walking down the hallway, I pulled the folder open to see if it's contents had the name of the new student. Maybe if I found a name, I would be able to focus more. As I looked through the papers, I paused in the hallway, remembering my sister's words from breakfast. Continuing to walk towards the main office, I looked down at the new student's schedule. My mind clicked into gear as I read the name on the schedule, Magnus Bane.
