I stepped into the great hall. The view took my breath away. There were five long tables which were filled with food and empty place settings. At the end of the room, next to a big door, was a raised landing that held a long table where Lord Harry, Uriah, John, and two other people who I didn't recognize were sitting. I sat by myself and filled my gold plate with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a chicken leg. I filled my golden goblet with a pitcher of iced tea nearby. Sunny joined me. I sat in silence purely letting her talk about her home and whatever else, I tuned most of it out. After eating, a booming voice filled the hall.
"All initiates will go to the courtyard immediately." We rose, there wen't many people in the great hall other than us, though a few people gave us superior stares. After walking outside, the first thing I noticed was a giant tree who's limbs were twisted and gnarled until the tree stood at about fifty feet. Lord Harry stared at us all. I think everyone avoided his gaze accept me.
"Tomorrow you will be here at seven a.m. sharp. If you're late, you will be punished. You must pass the tests we set for you during the next week. If you do not pass, you die. No exceptions. There is no 'lights out' but I recommend going to bed early. You will need all the rest you can get." He ordered, glaring at all of us with his brilliant green eyes. People nodded their heads and looked down but I didn't break my gaze. He looked at me for a moment, then he walked back inside. Everyone stood there speechless. I shrugged and walked back up to the dorm. I pulled the four poster's curtin's around me so that I was hidden. The sound of the other girls filled the room as I drifted off to sleep. That night I dreamt of green eyes carrying me to safety.
Everyone dragged their exhaust-ridden bodies into the courtyard. I won't lie, I was very groggy too. Lord Harry was leaning against the wall in the court yard.
"Today you will be climbing this tree," He said motioning to the giant tree in the middle of the court yard, 'There are strips of fabric tied to one of the limbs, you will climb up, untie one, and climb down with the strip. Do not fail."
No one seemed to know what to do so I stepped up first. I spotted a low hanging branch and swing myself onto that. Luckily I had a lot of experience climbing trees. I have a rule, at least one hand and one foot should have a sturdy place at all times. I looked up the tree and planned my rout. I began climbing up. Branch after branch, moving the occasional twig out of the way, I finally reached the top. I sat on a thick branch while I untied a strip. I tied the red fabric to my wrist and climbed carefully down. It's easier to slip while coming down than it is while climbing up. I jumped down onto the ground and walked over to the group. Lord Harry looked at me as if he were thinking about something. Everyone passed but there were a few slip-ups. One of which a boy was hanging by one hand from thirty feet in the air. But in the end, everyone made it. For the rest of the day we went over hand to hand fighting techniques. I don't think I quite got the hang of it though considering I landed on my back many times. This wasn't good considering Lord Harry was beginning to eye me darkly.
Okay this was kind of a filler chapter. Sorry I haven't updated, I was at a camp this weekend and I had three chapters typed up and everything and then I accidentally deleted them *face palm* but next chapter is when the real stuff starts happening
