"Keith, look!" Lance said, running towards his best friend. "Altea Science Lab is taking pairs of volunteers to test their cool science-y stuff!" The twelve year old boy exclaimed. "Um, cool?" His friend said, slightly confused. "We should volunteer together!" The raven-haired boy's face lit up with excitement. "Yeah!" He agreed.

That night, both of the boys went to their homes, which were next door to each other. They each convinced their parents to let them volunteer to test out the new technology at the Altea Science Lab. After much begging, both families agreed.

That weekend the twelve year old boys went to the science lab. They sat in a waiting room, chattering about what they thought was going to happen.

"What if they gave us powers! We could be superheros!" Lance exclaimed as he grinned.

"Or what if they found a way modify the body so we couldn't get sick! Then we wouldn't have to feel that terribleness ever again!" Keith said, just as much excitement bubbling in his voice as Lance's.

Lance shrugged. "That would be cool, but then we'd never be able to pretend to be sick again." Keith nodded. "I guess you're right. But what if they found a way to give people animal features? What if they gave us cat ears!" Both boys imagined themselves with cat ears. "All the girls would love us!" There was a bright gleam in Lance's eyes as he said these words. Keith smiled softly. "Yeah, I guess," he said with a shrug.

A lab coat clad man with bright orange hair and the best mustache ever stepped into the waiting room, a clipboard in his hands. "Lance McClain and Keith Kogane," he called. Hearing their names, the boys jumped up, excitement radiating off of them.

The man looked the boys over, before smiling. "Hello, boys. I'm Dr. Coran. Are you two excited?" They nodded vigorously, both feeling too excited to speak. "Great! Today my dearest friend, Dr. Alfor, will be testing something out on the two of you. It's not anything that will hurt, I promise. We saved the most harmless thing for the two of you."

Dr. Coran led the boys out of the waiting room. There was a long hallway, multiple doors on either side of the hall. The scientist turned into a certain door. Lance was following Coran into the room when he noticed that Keith had stopped walking.

He turned to look at his friend. He saw in Keith's purple eyes, a look of slight fear for whatever was in that lab. "Keith, come on. It's ok," he said. Keith looked up at Lance, who, had recently got a growth spurt, making him about six inches taller than the other boy who hasn't had one yet.

"What if something goes wrong? What if one of us gets hurt?" Lance shook his head, a reassuring grin on his face. "It's ok, Keith. That won't happen. Here," Lance reached his hand out to the smaller boy. Keith hesitantly took his hand and Lance gave him a comforting squeeze. "No homo though," The Cuban boy said, laughing. The other boy rolled his eyes.

When they finally walked into the lab, hand in hand, there was another man in there with Dr. Coran. He had dark skin and white hair, yet he didn't look old. He was actually quite handsome. "Boys, this is Dr. Alfor. He will be the one doing the experiment today. Don't worry though, he's the best here at Altea Science Labs. In fact, he's also the founder of the company."

Dr. Alfor smiled, waving at the two boys. "Hello. As Coran said, I'm Dr. Alfor." Lance grinned at him. "Well hi, Dr. Alfor. I'm Lance and this is Keith," he pointed his thumb at the other boy. Keith waved, wiggling his fingers.

"He's a little scared, but I'm not," Lance said boastfully. The other boy turned to glare at Lance. "No I'm not!" He said, punching the other boy in the shoulder. "Oh really?" Lance asked smugly, holding up their joined hands. "If you're not scared, why are you still clutching onto my hand?" Keith rolled his eyes. "Maybe I want to," he muttered. "What?" Lance asked. "Nothing," Keith answered, shrugging.
