April

I looked at myself in the mirror and admired the pink ball gown Ella lent me. Partying isn't really my thing but my best friend will kill me if I ditch the soiree.

It's our university's founding anniversary and it has been a tradition to end the celebration with a ball. Ella is the representative of our year level and she was the one assigned to make all the arrangements for the soiree. She's really excited to see the fruits of her labor. Students are not required to attend but I, being the best friend will be there to show support.

She's aware that I don't know anything about being glamorous so she provided me with pretty much everything. The gown, the shoes (4inch stilettos- HOW ON EARTH AM I GONNA WALK?!), the purse and the make up.

I stared at the make up kit and let out a deep sigh. How to use these thingamabobs?

I checked out the products one by one. 1 Mascara. I'm blessed with pretty long lashes so I definitely don't need this. 2 Eyeliner. The last time Ella used this on me, I cried. 3 Cheek and lip tint. Okay, I'm naturally pale so I must use this. 4 Foundation. Is this really important? Can't I just go for loose powder? I don't wanna look like a clown. 5 6 7 and the list of beauty products goes on and on.

Dressing up isn't my game that's why putting these things on my face and wearing fancy clothes kinda make me feel uncomfortable. I wouldn't have to go girly and all if not for my best friend. Talk about love and loyalty.

It took me quite a while to get myself dolled up. I didn't turn into some princess but I hope I managed to make myself look presentable. 'Presentable? Stop kidding yourself, April!'

Curling my long locks would surely take time so I decided to just wear it down to my waist. Ella must have forgotten about the hair spray that's why I'm scolding my hair, more like begging it to, just for once, stay in place. Fat chance. Ugh, I am one hopeless case. I've been primping for almost an hour now but I still look homely.

One of our professors said, "The first duty of a woman is to be beautiful." So, am I a disgrace to the entire womankind?

I pursed my lips and furrowed my brows in frustration. "If only I have a fairy godmother."

"Why wish for a fairy godmother when you have a best friend?"

I turned around and my mouth literally dropped open. Ella is donning an elegant white ball gown. Her make up emphasized her features and she's more beautiful than ever. Her hair is softly swept in a bun, exposing a silver necklace with a heart pendant on her neck.

"Wow! Bessy, you look like Cinderella."

"And you look like...Errr Well, you look like my best friend.," she said teasing me.

"You're so mean.," I said before rolling my eyes at her.

She let out a chuckle and started walking towards me. I saw her raise an eyebrow. Oh no! This is it, The Reuela Gwyneth Alonzo blabbing moment. Not now, please! It's bad enough that I look plain standing next to her. There's no need to state the obvious and make me feel worse, right?

She tilted my chin to examine my face closely. She sighed before saying,"Why didn't you use...

"La la la laaaaa!" I started to sing so I won't hear her.

".... foundation? And your eyebrows need grooming and you have to pu-"

"Okay, okay.," I said cutting her off. I threw up my hands in the air like I'm some criminal giving up and said, "I get it. I need your magical hands so cut the drama and help me fix myself. Please?!"
