Troy

I can't believe I let Cheska talk me into attending this party. She said it's the perfect time for me to make new friends. Well, she has a point.

I'm Samuel Troy Ortega, the new kid on the block. I came from a private collage, three towns away from home. The dormitory where I was staying got robbed last semester. One of my roommates was stabbed that's why my father has gone paranoid.

He said I'm not going back there. And before I can protest, he has already enrolled me in this university. He said it's near so I wouldn't have to stay in a dorm.

I have nothing against transfering here. What bothered me was the fact that I have to stay at home. I don't belong there.

My mother died giving birth to me. Papa remarried when I was ten and she is the perfect example of an evil stepmother. My father is a very busy man, always away on a business trip so he's not around to save me from my stepmom's wickedness.

Good thing, I have a second father. He is Papa's best friend. I call him StepDad because he treats me like I'm his son. Every time Papa's away, it's StepDad who looks after me.

He happens to have an apartment, only a few blocks away from here so I asked him to take me in. Papa didn't like the idea at first even if I promised to be home on weekends. I asked StepDad to convince him and he eventually said yes.

I knew it. He can't say no to him. I figured it's because StepDad doesn't have a family anymore and letting me stay with him would make both of us happy. He is aware of our closeness that he would sometimes teasingly accuse me of stealing his best friend, and Stepdad, stealing his son.

There was a time when I noticed he really got jealous. I then told him I don't harbor any ill feelings towards him and that I perfectly understand why he has to be away most of the time.

I wanna go home.

I texted Stepdad 30 minutes ago. I am so bored. Who wouldn't be? I'm stuck with Cheska. How can I make new friends? She hasn't stopped bragging about how expensive her ball gown is.

The heavens must have heard my plea. Cheska's "beauty queen" friends came. They've been busy taking pictures that they didn't see me sneak out.

I dialed StepDad's number. He answered on the fourth ring.

"Hey, buddy! How's it going?"

"I'm going home."

"What? Nobody's going home."

"But StepDad-"

"You have to wait til the party ends. It wouldn't be proper if you leave Cheska. Be a gentleman, Troy."

And he hung up.

Alright. We went here together, we should leave together. Cheska may be full of herself, immature and bothersome but she's also a nice girl. We're childhood friends afterall. Leaving her would be rude.

I was about to go back to the ballroom when I saw a girl trip over the stairway. I rushed and caught her before it's too late. My heart skipped a beat.

In my arms, is the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on. She's far different from the girls I saw earlier. Her gaze met mine, her hazel brown eyes filled with wonder. Her long dark brown hair simply fall down to her waist. Her full lips are inviting. Damn, I could kiss her all day!

Time stood still. I never thought it's possible to lose myself just by looking into the eyes of a girl. 'She's not just a girl.' My subconscious told me. I couldn't agree more.
